Since this group is called "Making Anime", i thought it was about time to actually getting down to the actual animation part

Animation
an·i·ma·tion (ān'ə-mā'shən) n. the phenemenon of envoking life

Anime
an·i·me (an-uh-mā') n. Japanese style of motion-picture animation

Believe it or not animation is a Western Art (i just know sumone wants to shoot me for this).
Japan has only been started the art of animation in the early 1900's
While Europe has already been studying this since the 1800's
Just look at the anime of that time. Speed Racer looks like crap compared to Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner that both were released in the 1960's. Although from great demand Japan was able to catch up to Western style and even surpass it.

These are sum primitive style of animation
Phenakistoscope

Kineograph (aka: flip book)

An animator isnt just a person that draws frames and a stort tellers,
Animators are also
Actors of pencils
Animators have to fake any exression just as well as any actor does
Scientists
it takes hours of observation to know how a drop of water looks like when moving
Phycologists
Notice the way one holds a cup, a pen, a hand, or even a phone. They all show part of a character's personality

The average video camera takes 30 frames per second
This meens that an animator has to draw at least 36,000 drawings for a 20 minute long story, excluding backgrounds and panning forgrounds. dont forget to cleen up the images, color them, sequence them, voice, sound and music them. So a simple Saturday night amine would have taken months to get done.
It only sounds like a fair deal considering the animators get paid.

I will further edit this later ... for now i call this done ...

Edit 1: (May 31)
ok yeah contiuing ...

i see that looping has been mentioned. YES loops save a hells alot of time but its greatest downside is the fact that it IS a loop.
Animators have to keep the visual intresting and tell a story. And cycles are pretty boring after 3 to 4 times through Plus a story cant really take place with mere walking ...
I'm pretty sure that if u find a loop on an anime it will only last a few seconds long; making prabably 27-32 frames last the span of 3seconds before the animators cut it off to a more intresting camera angle

Angles
Oh yeah!!! that brings up camera angles!!!
A low camera angle (looking up) makes the center of attention seem more dominant
High camera angles (looking down) make the center of attention seem more weak
Side angles are generally boring and are only used for introducing a scene or occurance
Non-facial generally used for anticipation (as in u dont see the person's face)
First person views are good for putting the viewers into the moment but is difficult to make understood at times
But the most difficutl part of this is the fact that Camera angles are never found by looking around a set but rather by one's imagination

Anticipation
when YOU know that its gunna happen but the characters dont
Just imagine a scene where sumone is about to be attacked in a dark hallway
The monster never comes out the moment the scene starts, the makers let you first see the scary atmosphere, see the character's expretion, emphasize the size of the hallway, hear the creepy music, and maybe a few shifting shadows ... THEN the monster pops out!

Realism
no matter how much magic is in ur story everything must seem REAL!!!
Why do u think every anime, cartoon, manga, comic, movie, and flash animation have gravity, unless they are in space?
The reason is cuz we, humans (im assuming we are human rite?), know, think, and believe that it will always be there.
Things also have to be clear to the reader. you just cant draw fire that burns downward and call it "fire" cuz viewers will keep thinking that its a hanging rag on the ceiling.

The only way I know to animate is Animation loops and it's fairly good for begining.

Here's some basic info about this tehnice:

Creating animation loops or animation cycles is a labor-saving technique for animating repetitive motions, such as a character walking or a breeze blowing through the trees. In the case of walking, the character is animated taking a step with their right foot, then a step with their left foot. The loop is created so that, when the sequence repeats, the motion is seamless. However, since an animation loop essentially uses the same bit of animation over and over again, they are easily detected and can in fact become distracting to an audience. In general, they are used only sparingly by productions with moderate or high budgets.
