I was into Tae Kwon Do for about two years, then I stopped. It wasn't my choice though.
I'd like to get back into ANY martial art. Well of course I have some studying to do.. But I'm just scared that I'll be embarrassed if I'm the only person starting something new at age 17. I don't want to be in a classroom of five year old pros you know? :/

I did Tae kwon do for 3 years and acheived a blue belt before my sensei got sick and classes were put on hiatus for over a year now,I miss the hell out of it, I started when I was 13 and after a few months ended up in the adult class, because of my freakish height and strength, my mom told the guys in the adult class to "make a man out of him" which gave authorization to men more than twice my age to beat the LIVING CRAP OUT OF ME!!,

But I loved it and learned from the beatings, and soon enough I was at their level, flipping them over my shoulder, busting their lips and noses, making them hit the mat out of submission, generally getting even

I would love to take up another martial art, like Bruce lee's: Jeet Kune Do, or Wushu even Tai chi

i dunno why ppl take karate classes. When ur in a real fight situation its either fight or flight and if u choose fight ur not gonna remember the moves u were taught in class. In my opinion taking karate classes in just for bragging rights nothing else.

This is completely untrue. I've been in a few fights in and around college and the training makes a huge difference. It should be noted though that I've had to go to the police station afterwards. This is like saying a boxer won't remember how to punch in real life.

I used to do Komdo which is Korean Sword fighting..
And interesting story:
My teacher was real strict and stuff and we were pratice'n for tornament and we split the class up into two teams to fight. So, naturally my team won XP But meh bro was on the other team and our teacher made him duck walk (When your kinda sitting while walking (ur not sitting on a chair though XP)) all the way to this store that was over in east jabib. So'z, my bros all like "ugh" and he goes and then in 3 mins he n 3 others run b ak all "Omg omg omg we need help"
Turns out that it was a rocky path, and a kid fell down and cut his leg open (it was gross!!) so then with that, the punishment of looseing changed from duckwalking to doing 500 push ups XP

Every time I see that you've posted I feel a little dumber. There is a large amount of stuff to learn in boxing. Timing, footwork, punch combinations, covering up, using the rope, and cutting off the ring to name a few. Go pick a fight with anyone in the UFC or K1 and tell me martial arts training is useless in real world application. If the pure mental and physical stability in times of crisis don't help then the discipline and reflex conditioning would. Please learn to post intelligently. Thus far the mindless babble I've read has made me cry for your future children.

Well, you obviously know about sticking with a martial art. Thanks for your advice about my son. Hopefully when these two tournaments are over, he will go back and just concentrate on his training instead of competing. He does prefer kumite to kata, I think, and perhaps just needs to gain experience by practising more against the people at his dojo. Do you still train regularly? I don't know how similar kung fu is to karate, ie whether they have kata etc. In Australia, I think karate is more popular but a lot of people do Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu.

haha actually no i kinda stopped training regularly for the past yr and a half...
but its cuz i moved back to california, so i dont have a school to go to now... and my master mite kill me if i went to any other master. he's a very scary man. im supposed to find some students of my own so i can practice by teaching, but i been busy with learning art ever since i moved home... i'll be done with that next week tho, so im planning to get back into training again by practicing on my own.

most martial arts have kata and kumite tho they have different names for em.. and yea my master's master lives in australia i think in melbourne too actually.

my master used to get into fights like every week cuz he lives in the middle of the ghetto... either people trying to rob his place, or muggers, or gangs, crazy people, drunk people, hitmen from rival martial arts organizations, challengers, and random beef on the street... and he's beat up guys twice his size, groups of people twice his size, people carrying weapons, everything u can think of.. he told me that all his martial arts has been tested on the streets.. he used to make his students pick random fights on the streets as part of their training, but then he stopped because he didnt want to risk goin to jail.

i took karate when i was a kid but stopped at blue-black belt (6/10), but i restarted when i was...16...i guess...but i hardly went and stopped again. i really liked it and i want to start it again and get my black belt eventually during college. they said i was talented, but i had some huge social anxiety problems which is why i never went....

I don't know about that, but in martial arts as my sensei told me, the longer you train the better your body remembers the moves, until finally when faced with a situation where you can apply those moves/techniques your body will act like it is on instinct... which is why training is very important... It's called "muscle memory" if I remember correctly... I'm not very good at martial arts, but that's what I've learned..
