This is not asking what draws you to anime. This is merely asking how you were introduced to anime. I was introduced to anime when I was about 5 years old. I was watching taped copies of Robotech at my cousins house and I visited often. I guess that would make me an avid anime fan for about 11 years now. Now I scarcely consider Robotech an anime although it purely is. I just feel like this was the original "dub" meaning that it was the first thing I saw were a lot was taken out. I was young and didn't care before, but now I do. Robotech is really American TV that consisted of 3 real unrelated anime which is why I consider it American.
Heres what it consisted of if anyone is curious
Composed of:
Genesis Climber Mospeada (TV)
Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross (TV)
Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (TV)

Any other anecdotes about how some of you were introduced to anime.
Im sure a lot of you will say that you just saw it on Cartoon network and thats fine too. I wonder if anyone has there anime introduction anecdote similar to my basketball anecdote where my mom was watching the all star game while she was in labor.

man ... 5 is young, I started with Galaxy Express 999 at a carribean restaurant. That may sound far fetched, but my uncle owns a carribean/chinese restaurant/bar. Anyways, my family was having a get together, I was about 8 or 9, while the adults were talking it up, i was with my cousins in the basement. We played some video games (my uncle lives in the basement which is why there was a tv) and after that, most of my fam had to leave. I was left with my sister, so i flipped through the channels, lo and behold i saw a cartoon which wasnt quite a cartoon. I began to stay up late and sneek around in my house just to watch anime (among other things) and anime turned into an obsession over the years.

I really don't remember when I saw my first anime, but I do know that I was under ten. I also don't remeber what it was. I do however remember that it was spellbinding. I remember that there was so much more to it than the Thundercats, Transformers, Mask, or any of the other American cartoons had to offer. I watched it for a few days and then I just could not find it again. After that it was a while before I found something that showed me the world I was missing. That was Saturday Anime on the Sci-fi channel.

Back when I lived in New Jersey, I had to be with my parents at work every Wednesday, because I was too young to be home by myself and they had to work late. My brother an I had a room specifically for us, and in it was a TV with basic cable. There wasn't a whole lot of things on during the time we were there, but it just so happened that Dragon Ball Z was. So we both got into that, and it kind of expanded from there.

This was when I was about...6 or 7. So I've been in to anime for about 11 or 12 years, I suppose.

When I was 6-8(can't really remember) Sci-fi had anime showing before I would go to school. So that got me into it.

no clue how long it's been. but the first anime i watched was probably pokemon. i would watch it at 6 in the morning (after johnny quest), before it was even aired afternoons and became popular. in the years after, i think there was various anime i saw but didn't realize it was anime back then. for years i thought dbz looked like one of the stupidest shows ever. so one day at my friend's house, they were watching some movie of it and i figured i'd at least see what the hype was all about. after seeing it, i started watching it at the beginning of the android saga. to my surprise, i found after awhile it was actually pretty cool. totally different from anything i had watched before. the characters were more interesting, the stories were engrossing. everything about it was more interesting. honestly, i didn't even care about the action and violence that everyone else watched it for. it was all about the characters and progression of the storyline to me. i nerded out on dbz and ended up knowing even more than any of the trend followers (i beat them at thier own game ). i even knew about dbgt before any of them :O /sarcasm
during all this dbz research was when i discovered the world of anime. i'm not sure where i went from there or what i watched though...

the number one thing that drew me to anime though, and that i like to this day, is how the hero wasn't constantly winning. it was more realistic. sure, the hero would win the war, but it would take many battles and hardships to get there.
