I read that krnsoldierofGod that whole "the internet is running out of bandwidth" has been around since before netneutrality business. These type of stories about the internet failing or becoming pointless in X amount of years are no different then when people panicked about Y2K, or the people who say the world will end in 2012.

You have to take these stories with a grain of salt, because it is impossible to predict what advances in technology will be around even next year. Or heck the internet might become worthless simply because something bigger an better appears. Who knows any thing can happen, an will happen. But to panic or worry about it is just not worth it ^^

I seriously doubt this will ever happen. First every online store in the world would be against this. Second it would break a lot of monopoly laws, at least in the US. Third if you look at that page where they show price options, why would you even need need a search engine option if you can only access a few commercial pages any ways, would make search engines pointless...

This type of rumor has been around on the internet since the mid 90's. Heck when I first started using CompuServe (now AOL) in the early 90's you paid 5-6 dollars a hour to be online. Why because there was no competition, soon as competition came the price went to 24.95 per month.

Same thing will happen even if this was true, your big ISP's might do this, but it will just make room for small local ISP's that offer full internet access to spring up. Seriously though it would be pointless for the big ISP's to do this, if the internet becomes a pointless corporate outlet for big names it kills over 95% of their customer base, which to me would be bad business. ISP's do not have to pay to access the content on the internet it is free to connect to it, so why would they block it, it sure seems pointless on their part to even think about.

At this point it is all just chicken little, the sky is falling worthless banter. Four years is a long time in internet terms, I am sure a lot of things will change making this whole topic pointless by then.

I agree.

I wonder if premium commercial crap will come out when some students research for their homework(Wasting their time because who gives a damn about those advertisements). Maybe they will block p2p clients too thus spreading chaos to online games, chat clients and etc. I didn't know Ddos(Distributed Denial of Service) can play by the rules.

If this does happen, I swear I will go to a gun shop, buy a shotgun or a desert eagle, and lead a one man assault on each of the companies doing this.

But as Ryokucha pointed out.... it might not happen. >_>

the CERN laboratory in Geneva already invented a better version of the net known as 'The Grid'. It's got connection speeds so fast,it's possible to send hundreds of mb in files from London to Tokyo in a few seconds time. It aims to replace the net in 4-5 years time.
(they are also the people who invented the internet back in the 70's btw)

See who needs this crappy slow internet in 4 years when we can be using "The Grid". Heck it even sounds more awesome then the lame sounding internet. I can't wait! So why worry about about what will happen in four years, I still don't buy any of this happening ever any ways ^^
