It's really powerful for people who let it affect them. Because via the internet, there is a sense of anonymity, it's difficult to pinpoint who is doing the bullying. I have done a short study on bullying before, and in most cases where schoolyard bullying is referring to most physical abuses, like extortion, name calling, rough pushing, dirty tricks behind your back. The individual is usually targeted by how he or she looks, they are alienated from the group through bullying, similarly, the bully or bullies gain a sense of power torturing an individual. Lighter offenses are overstepping boundaries of comfort, making rude comments where not welcome, and the victim seeming weak to fend off such tactics.

Cyber bullying is different because of anonymity. You can choose to disclose or conceal information about yourself, knowing, or unknowingly. You don't know who is using the internet. Interactions take place in communities, like forums, games, esp MMO it's really easy to find internet buddies, because people don't have to overcome the fear of approaching a stranger to speak to them. Since there is also an easy escape route, which is simply to go offline, you can go online and talk to anyone you want, basically. You can create personas, that may or may not be like your real self. Other people feel that the internet is a place to escape, be in someone else's shoes. I highly advise people not to get too caught up in internet gossip. Where people are heavily engaged in things common to them, like celebrities, for example, being too involved in such communities create an identity of some sort, which people may link to their real lives.

Obsession can be dangerous, especially ignoring real life issues and choosing to indulge in the web. Especially especially MMORPGs, I know it's very addicting, but at the same time, I hope you guys will acknowledge how dangerous it is. Creating characters is fun, playing, running around killing enemies for coins lala is fun. But what's worse is levelling. Some people spend hundreds of hours to make a level before turning back to care about their actual families and friends. So what if you're level 319 in some awesome game? So what if your character has the most awesome weapon? Are you going to get stuck when new games are being released all the time? Health, time, priorities are all messed up!

When someone gets so involved, bullying in the cyberspace is really devastating to the individual. Hacking, or leaving bad comments, scamming, phishing, spamming, chainletters, flaming, what for? You're quarreling with someone you don't know over the internet over something which the both of you are probably not going to come to agreements with. You get upset over things that happen on the internet, about what people do to your created internet identity.

Ever heard of this thing whereby people try to please others? They do all sorts of things, and even when this amount of effort is invested, rejection from the web community can be a heavy blow. It gets worse when someone really believes that their self and the net self is closely related, and that self gets rejection, blows from manipulated photos, harsh words. Other times, people exaggerate their situation. They think it's the end of the world when their accounts gets banned, they over think and believe they have like 5-6 multiple personalites. When they are popular, all is well, when they aren't it's the end of the world. Does it really matter? Is your identity fixed to what you do, what happens to you?

Another thing I noticed is arrogance over the net. Most people will not acknowledge they have it. Most people will not realise they fall under this. I fall victim to this once in a while. Even this post demonstrates it. Looking smart on the net (I'm not, I have grades to prove I'm just average), looking knowledgeable. That gains a user internet reputation. What for? to build the internet identity. A lot of people come to me with different sorts of comments. They branch off into 3 categories:

- Questions (all sorts, about the site, about their problems, about random things)
- Flame (coz they hate all 'internet popularly people'. I don't get that a lot. If you check with Mauz, BK, or Tammy, or Doom, Shinji, yes, this is a large part of their mailbox...maybe.)
- Admiration, or friendly stuff

You have to realise that the net isn't the world. It's a virtual, a created one. What happens if you are suddenly made a moderator? Why do you want that? To gain power, authority. Over what? Other people. Even indulging in this sort of feeling is cyber bullying. Because when you develop this sort of attitude to want to be better than others, more popular, more capable, it changes the way you speak to others, you probably won't in real life.

All in all, bullying boils down to 3 factors: 1) power struggle 2) victim/s 3) bystanders/participators.

(For the cheese factor) Use the net, don't the net use you.
(UGH, I HATE this sort of ending)

(I don't mean to qualify my statements all the time, yes, I know some people want to dutifully help out, no questions asked, but only they know if it's true or not. Also, don't flame me. I'm not flammable. It's going to be boring if you decide to quarrel with me.)

cyber bullying i believe is being carried out by individuals who are emotionally unstable.

don't let cyber bullying get to you, if you get upset about something that was typed to/about you, then you're as pathetic as the person who typed it, you know you're better than those losers, so don't let typed words affect what you think about yourself, cyber bullies are cowards, they hide behind a computer moniter, so don't take anything they type to heart.

I never felt like being cyper bullied before, I always just pretend all rude or insultive marks are made by a sad little person that is just angry or born like that. But I find people who are being cyber bullied pathetic and pitiful at the same time.

I get cyber bullied by the Eudd_worshipers.
It doesnt bother me, but there people they hurt that do get scared.
Which isnt right.
who cares if people like naruto, bleach and have grammer problems.
its none of their bussiness. We're all here for one thing to watch videos.

everyone does.
seriously, all the anti-Naruto,Bleach legion are 13 and 14 years old who like to shove their ideals down everybody's throat. It's not like we dont watch anything else on CR. I like Bleach and Naruto as a respite from intense, serious series like Kaiji and Akagi. I dont want to watch yet another series where I have to think a lot or lose hold of the plot.
People should also know that not everybody's first language is english and respect that. Not be an obnoxious prick when someone makes a grammatical error.

It is a rather mediocre way of behaving on the internet. just because you're too chicken to bully someone in real life, doesn't mean that you'd take it all on those poor people who can't defend themselves on the net. They ought to grow up.

I hate cyber-bullying, its just pathetic, and I have seen a lot of cyber-bullying here on crunchyroll. Its a group called Eudd_Worshipers when an idiot from that group finds a thread to bash they post it there and they all gather its really annoying. Anyway as the rest of the people here say, its carried out by pathetic cowards.

honestly, why do people make such a big deal about this?
being ridiculed on the internet is a laughable matter, stupid sissies>>>emos take thing too seriously..
you can say anything in the internet... in return the internet can say anything, no matter how degrading, hurtful, etc. it is, to you...
is it because they might find your home address, school, real name or something?
if so, that's your fault for putting your private data on the net...
get over it...

I have mixed opinions on the whole cyber bullying issue.

However, I do not view correcting grammatical errors to be a form of cyber bullying. It is understood generally that alot of asian countries do not use English as their first language; citizens there have poor command of the language. If they aren't good in English, whats wrong with correcting them. People learn from their mistakes but sometimes those mistakes need to be pointed out. If you are going to get angry about someone correcting your English, why not punch your English teacher - seriously, should you label someone who rectifies your grammatical errors as arrogant it makes a negative statement about yourself.

I got angry at a person for correcting me

Indirectly you are telling people that about yourself, and it proves you to be arrogant.

Its different if people make fun of you for bad grammar with the sole intention of belittling you, but you cant know peoples' intentions from statements on the internet, so don't get angry over a possibly false assumption.
