quick question....

wouldn't this degrade them a little?

degrade them how? its considered a bigger shame to not attend military service and try and avoid it... There was a big scandal a couple of years ago with Yoo Seung Jun (a famous singer) not attending military service (theres alot more too it, but its a long story..). In short, the government decided to make YSJ an example and basically exiled him from korea for not attending military service. After that, its become a big thing for celebrity males not to escape military service in korea.

Oh it was just a question. Cause to me I think
everyone should do their share in the military too
but I was kinda asking it from celebrity-wise perspective.
Cause you know how some celebrities think they're
too good. so yup.

yea, thats what caused the whole government going crazy and making YSJ an example.
Alot of non-koreans and even some koreans, don't really remember about YSJ and the whole military thing... so yea...

Basically, YSJ, who was a very famous singer at the time, told the government he was going attend his military service (though he had a back injury). However, right before his time to serve, his American citizenship came out. So, all of a sudden he didn't need to attend military service. The government said he had lied about attending and that he was trying to escape military service. Also, alot of korean men had been escaping military service, usually the rich ones, etc. So, to stop this, the korean government decided to make and example of YSJ. They exiled him from korea. YSJ lives in LA now and the only time he was allowed back into the country was when his wife's father passed away. Thats why its considered a good thing for celebrities to go. So, Eru (singer) and other american-citizen celebrities in korea give-up their citizenships and attend military service. It was a huge scandal a couple of years ago...

Yea, he can't visit... Also, whenever you enter a foreign country you have to fill-out a information card to register with the country... So, YSJ would have to register to enter the country and before you leave the airport, the countries check the person's passport and identification. So, unless YSJ was desperate and crazy, he isn't going to be visiting korea unless there is an emergency...
