Mini and Smart are very slow. It takes the Smart 12.8 from 0-60.... I do that in a 1/4.

not all mini's are slow, and there is a nice aftermarket for them, a 03 cooper s is really fun to drive... but the suspension is so stiff that it can crack your front windshield. had a car come into my work with that... another downside is the run-flat tires, there to dang expensive to replace.

Lancer Evo costs 35k+. If you want the look of the Evo and damn good performance go with an '08 or '09 Lancer ES/GTS for about 17-22k. Trust me, I just got one.

Which is why most of us prefer the evo. it's worth the money.

all the more fun if someone with a lancer GTS lines up with someone with a debadged evoX and tries to take him.

and honestly? there isn't really any performance out of the lancer series.

The lancer is a fun car to drive but not amazing at all. However, with the new ralliart coming, it's going to be a different story. I would had bought a 9 if my parents knew how to drive stick.

Parents, Friends and Significant others should NOT drive your car if you love your car.

because just like if you own your own business and have employees, it's a known fact that NO ONE will respect or work as hard as you do since they PAID NOTHING TO BEGIN WITH.

(I learned this the hard way when i turned 19 and i had just finished the install of my body kit which cost me $1300 from australia... my mom scraped the fuck out of it. esp. with coilovers... i've got about 3-4 inches ground clearance. lol. repaired front bumper and side skirts several times)

honestly i tried driving the new lancers at a dealer and honestly i was more considering a new corolla or versa.

True true true. I don't let anyone drive my car unless it's necessary/urgent. Only my dad has been in the driver seat besides myself. Then again, he did paid for it. lol

In my opinion the extra money isn't worth the performance of the Evo's. Sure they're fast but I'm not looking to shatter records or race everyone that poses a threat. I'd much rather have look and style over raw performance anyday and if I can get that at a lower price then great.

certainly. for the average driver, a regular lancer is sufficient.

Value wise I would stay away from the Mini, the Smart and probably the VW (at least the GTI), they will kill you up front and in maintenance. I have a Prius and while it is great on gas its not the best driving experience in the world. The regenerative braking makes smooth stopping a chore and if you live by rough roads the tires are prone to blowouts. I would suggest something in the Scion line, since you get a lot for the money and good reliability, by the same token any of those fuel efficient hatches that have come out from Japan recently would be good too. I for one prefer to mod a car myself and those will all give you a good starting point, plenty of cargo room and good gas mileage.

As for insurance just call your company and theyll quote you for certain models. I find number of seats, number of cylinders and whether or not the car is NA or Turbo will be the biggest determinants. My own insurance is 2700 every six months but thats because I was an idiot when I was younger.
