Indonesian TV Station Reprimanded for Airing One Piece
posted on 2008-07-11 13:07 EDT

Pirate adventure anime criticized for bloody imagery, "sensual-looking women"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has reprimanded a television station for airing episodes of the
One Piece
pirate adventure anime series that it found contained objectionable content during times when children would likely be in its audience. The KPI specifically
objected to what it called "violent, bloody imagery," "sensual looking women," and close-ups of "women's body parts" in episodes broadcasted during the
morning and evening hours on the Global TV station.

Under Indonesian law, the KPI can establish rules to regulate the airing times and content of shows broadcasted on Indonesian television. Violations of
the rules are punishable by fines of up to 10 billion rupiah (about US$1 million) or jail time for television company executives.

Kuroshitsuji Anime Confirmed to Premiere This Fall
posted on 2008-07-11 03:26 EDT

Comedy
manga
centers on impeccable demon butler and his 12-year-old master

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next-issue preview in the August issue (released on July 10) of
Gakken
's
Animedia
magazine has confirmed that a
Kuroshitsuji
anime
will premiere this fall.
Yana Toboso
draws the original Kuroshitsuji manga about Sebastian Michaelis, an impeccable butler who can carry out practically any task his master requires of him
— partly because he is a demon. His current master is Ciel, the Phantomhive family head who is smart, business-savvy, and all of 12 years old.

The action situational comedy story has been running in
Square Enix
's Monthly
G Fantasy
magazine since 2006, and four volumes have been compiled and published. A free sample of the manga is available online in
DHTML
or
Flash
format.

The same next-issue preview in Animedia's current issue also indicates that the next
Clannad
anime project,
Clannad After Story
, will hold its premiere in the fall.

Tokyo Man Found Guilty of Anime File-Sharing
posted on 2008-07-14 07:46 EDT

Sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for using Share program for unauthorized sharing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Kyoto
District Court
has found one of three defendants guilty of unauthorized uploading of
Gundam
and other popular anime with the Share
file-sharing program
on Friday. Judge Kōji Shibata ordered Moriyoshi Inoha, a 41-year-old company employee from Tokyo, to serve one year and six months in prison (with a three-year
suspended sentence). Prosecutors has
asked
for that length of prison time for Inoha on July 4.

One of the other defendants, 34-year-old company employee Kasuhiro Maki from Kawasaki City, is also
facing
an 18-month sentence from a different judge in the same court. Although others have been
indicted
and
sentenced
for using other programs to share files without permission, Inoha, Maki, and Takahiro Ōtomo from Hiroshima Prefecture were the first in Japan to be arrested
for allegedly using Share, a program that had promised high anonymity for its users. (Ever since
security
researchers found flaws in Share in 2006, other successor applications have been developed.)

Japan's Copyright Law prohibits unauthorized uploaders but expressly allows people to download for private use. The Japanese government is
pushing
for a ban on unauthorized downloads as well, despite receiving thousands of messages from citizens opposing the ban.
