Book stores and libraries usually have a pretty good selection of samurai books with histories, about the culture, those types of things

Does anyone know what a ghost head sword was used for? Because to me it just seems like a big bulky dao

Yo, Ice. What is the original number of folds for a katana made from Tamahagani steel.
Various makers today use around 6 to 8 or even 10. I read some makers use more than 10.
Too few folds and the blade is soft, too many and it's brittle.
I know that almost no swordsmith kept records of what was in their steel and how they made them, that it was all tradition and passed down person to person. I'm just hoping you know of some record that tell of the original way. If so, could you tell me of the number of folds and the source of the information.

Great question!

I know that there were never any more folds than 14 that were used in battle.
I know that I have never seen or heard of any more than 12 folds. And that around 9 or 10 folds was common.
I will try and hunt down a source for you here in a bit.

As for contents of the metal, that would be roughly .50-.80% carbon with iron.
I know tamahagane steel came from iron particles rather than iron ore. I am not sure the process in which it is refined.

On the wiki of Miyamoto Musashi, It says he refused to fight in the Battle of Sekigahara for the toyotomi, but then says he fought six battles...

Could you please clarify this a bit cause I'm confused on whether he was in the battle or not.

It is undetermined.
Many sources claim he fought for Toyotomi, but there is no definitive record.

Many suggest he did not due to the lack of a record.

Musashi claimed six battles in Go Rin Sho, so it is suggested that Sekigahara was one of those.
