If Beowulf can do this, then Castlevania will rock as well late next year.

Although I probably will love it for the special effects and references to mythology, I still cannot bypass the thought that this movie is only VERY LOOSELY based off the original myth.

did it ever occur to you that Grendel was a freaking werewolf? If you didn't, you obviously weren't the right person to screenplay and direct.

From what I saw and heard, I couldn't stand the voice acting whatsoever. I imagined Beowulf yelling his name for a good three seconds, but you showed him barely passing a second. As for your foreshadowing, you really don't know how to foreshadow movies. Last I check, majority of the people get quite an impact from these kind of moments, but you poorly implement this in the movie. Your humor was by far weak, the only joke I had a laugh is when Wiglaf asked if you needed help in the cave, before Beowulf could answer, he'd say, "Didn't think so, go on ahead." As for the rest (mostly chick jokes), haha, so original.

Graphics-wise, it's top-notch in my eyes. I am now rest assured to know that Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures won't look terrible.

Edit: Going to see No Country for Old Men on Friday or Saturday, that movie better be worth it.

where did you get the whole grendal=werewolf thing? I've had to read Beowulf like four times for different english classes and in none of the translations have I ever come acros grendal as a werewofl. He was always just described as a troll from the marshlands who attacked the meadhall because of the noise. So I think that at least in that aspect of the movie, Neil did a pretty good job.

As for the voice acting...it wasn't so bad. I mean yeah, Angelina Jolie had a weird transylvanian thing going...but then again she was a freaking demon so who cares. The part that I really liked was the fact that Grendal spoke in something similar to the way that Old English would have sounded...that was awesome...and that they also had old english when they were re-enacting the song of Beowulf.

Aside from embelishing the details of the story a bit...(come on what was with Beowulf sleeping with everything that moved...what kind of hero does that, oh wait...) I thought it was a fairly good adaptation. Not my favorite movie of the year...but not on my "worst of" list. Although, honestly anyone who wants to see a really interesting take on the Beowulf epic...I'd recommend 13th warrior...I dig that movie.

Oh and by the way No Country...freaking amazing! Although I think a lot of people were disappointed with the ending.

I thought it was horrible when compared with the book. It totally reversed the themes of the poem and squashed together and continued storylines that ruined it. The book is better, trust me.

And the "polar express" style animation should be burned. It was horrible.

Was I the only one who thought that the story was destroyed just to add in Anglina jolie's bosom? I imagine that casting call went out like this: "This movie is never going to sell unless we add tits, so get us a nice pair of them and we'll fit it in there somehow."

Hmm, I've heard that it was reasonably similar to the poem I haven't read it myself though... not in English anyway. I read some passages in Old-English to see if I could figure out what was going on

Þā cōm of mōre under misthleoðum
Grendel gongan, godes yrre bær.

... It was a pain in the arse.

(That one I did work out though.)

And WHAT exactly IS the "original" myth? I ask you because you sound like an expert.

nipponboy: The oldest manuscript of Beowulf is written in OLD English. Old English is really old and is mostly unintelligible to modern English-speaking people.

Quite disapointed with the film in almost every aspect and i went in with such high hopes =(.

Although i will say this the very next night i saw American Gangsta and the first 15 minutes of the movie i saw alone totally made up for it.

My school is a few blocks down from two major shopping centers.
I decided I wanted to skip a day to go watch Beowulf.

I felt guilty so I didnt have the guts to do it. -__- pooey.
