Out of all the anime I have seen. The ones that still bring sadness to heart and
tears to my eyes. Just thinking about them are:

1. Figure 17

2. Grave of the fireflies

3. Martian Successor Nadesico- Yes this is a comedy but some episodes
are very sad.

4. Crest of the Stars

There might have be other sad series or episodes that I have seen but this are
the most memorable.

honestly lusulpher, i watched saikano a while back, i uploaded grave of the fireflies, i saw wolfs rain and its crappy ending, and i cant say i was that moved in the least. No anime can actually sadden me, but it makes points that are sad - that's it. There are truths in this world that are sad, anime just as art, elaborates on them. Whats really sad is the world, and all its inequalities.

****************************SPOILER*********************************************************

Rewatch the bitter inequality when Cher dies and her husband continues on knowing he won't make it either. And when he dies he doesn't try to save himself, he just quits. That shit happens everyday, that and when Toboe is killed by friendly fire. The irony was enough to make up for that awful ending.

Saikano made me tear up, and I have gone without crying for three years. Their lives were so honest it kinda hit home, I would have done the same things they did, like the decisions not to save the country, but try to work out my own relationship. The army men had families to get back to, but because of true love they died slowly and hopeless. That was some raw tragedy.
Especially when the best friend confessed her crush for Shugo and how he was on her swing(she carved her secret on the bottom) his whole childhood without realizing. I've had crushes on girls and met them everyday without them knowing for years, my longest was five years.
The characters in this show didn't just die, they suffered and then were extinguished.

If you want to see a movie that covers real tragedy, watch City of God(Portuguese sub). You will never forgive me, though.

Damn. That sucks. That seems exactly like that movie however. How did you feel after City of God?

I took care of my uncle-in-law as he died of AIDS, his family wanted nothing to do with him because he was friends with our family.

And I can't even talk about Gingersnap. Or my first soulmate, Jasmine.

i dunno man, city of god didnt really tell me anything new about life in brazil or latin america for that matter, i mean Venezuela has barrios, so does Guatemala, Columbia and almost every south american county. Brazil is not even in a civil war as Columbia is, or at least a de facto one, with all those political kidnappings, FARC and whatnot. There's even a militia in Guyana, so city of god was great to bring awareness to north america i guess, but anyone born in the carribean or south america can attest to the violence that has plagued our former countries.

I was born in St. Vincent and then lived in Barbados(Lesser Antilles, Caribbean), we don't have civil war. All we have is self-hating blacks trying to imitate the former aristocracy of Britain.
The government is so corrupt, they sold public beaches to resorts without a vote. Some people had ancestral lands and lived on those beaches, but they had to move without help from the government. And the same Prime Minister is elected for the 8th f***ing term! (the guy who sold public land!) Voting doesn't matter in that country.

You know what, life sucks, because all people have to do is be fair and they just refuse. They even take the extra effort to go out of their way to screw each other over. That should be an anime. The Human Tragedy.

Nooo, I'm watching Wolf's Rain now and I don't want anybody to die...:(

Saddest anime movie I've seen has to be Millenium Actress, though I haven't watched Grave of the Fireflies yet.

I thought Trigun was pretty sad. Just the fact that it had an end made me sad.

Oh, and COMPLETLEY off topic, but as I don't have enough points to make a post...I'm uploading/have uploaded Witch Hunter Robin, the 1st episode should be up as soon as it's approved, since I noticed that such a worthy collection of shows was missing such a great anime.

The saddest animes I've seen were Saikano, Full Moon wo Sagashite...and...I suppose Elfen Lied was sad and I did cry a few times (I'm a total baby when it comes to anime) but I don't know why. =/ I can't fully consider it that sad of an anime...I don't know why.

Saikano was definitly sad. Instead of watching the episodes over a period of time I wanted to avoid the recovery moments so it'd have more of an impact. So I watched it all the way through in one night...I was kind of sobbing by the end.... The saddest thing about that anime for me is seeing Chise suffer as she knows she's losing parts of her humanity everyday. That just broke my heart. There was one part Shuji gives her a rice ball and she just bites into it in which he screams, "Watch out! That's hot!" and she looks confused and goes, "What? ...I mean OW OW! Wow that's hot!' The look on their faces than made me cry. (Sorry if you consider this spoilers, I'll edit it if that's the case)

And Full Moon. Well I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it but towards the end it becomes really sad. I mean SURE it ends happy but it's what happened before that that counts.

One thing I learned from these animes. Tears + Subtitles = A pain in the butt. I kept having to pause on some parts. xD

Place Promised in our Early Days...
I first thought that this was some sort of boring anime movie, but it ended up to be excellent in my opinion..
excellent story and characters...
Though it isnt too sad, it really is emotional during the middle area and i really liked it

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien or Air have to be the most sad and Kanon is getting quite sad now. Atleast Kimi ga Nozomu Eien had a happy ending to some aspect, Air was just sad all the way through and the movie wasn't even happy.
