Huh. Anyone heard the Geordie accent? (Newcastle/North East England ish) thats my accent it's a bit strange apparently it has very similar sounds to Scandinavian languages... so maybes it comes from Scandinavians settling in the North??

I love the Geordie accent
Mine sucks, it's kinda brummy, yet not all the way there, since I live in Solihull (outskirts of Birmingham)

There is no such thing as a british accent. in the broadest possible terms there is english, scotish, irish and welsh accents, and in each of those there are even more local accents and dialects. i have a scottish accent(a cross between glaswegian and aberdonian to be exact as i was born and raised near aberdeen but my family are all from glasgow) and i am proud of it!

I'm a BBC so I have a British accent. Not really much to say about the British accent because it sounds pretty normal to me. A really strong British accent can be annoying though

I don't think there is such a thing as a British accent, since UK consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so you could say that someone has either a English, Welsh, Scotish or Irish accent. But then for example, in England, you have the posh English accent (Oxford, Cambridge, outside London etc), the Londoners accent (which branches of into a cockney accent in some parts of London), brummy accent (Birmingham), southerners and northerners accent which gets stronger the further north you go up till Newcastle, which has what we call a Geordie accent.

The accents vary across the UK, so could someone please clarify what people mean when they say British Accent ? or are they referring to any accent from the UK ?

I have a Londoners accent btw.

I grew up going to British English schools. The girls in the US thought it was so sexy . BTW I have a "Queen's English" accent.

Question to girls -- do you like the Queen's English accent or the other accents like Cockney which are well ... considered lower class.

I actually prefer accents that are more eloquent and posh.
Probably because with accents such as Glasweigan, Geordie, Cockney etc (Those that are generally considered "lower class") I have a harder time understanding what people are trying to say. =]

I dunno if someone already put this because i didnt read the entire thread lol
But when someone says British accent that could be Sottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, or English and all those countries have different accents too. i think different areas have different accents because of different settlers etc ^^
