Wow, it makes me sad to think that some people believe that race or riches makes you safe.

- When murder, rape, and gang activity are virtually unheard of and such an event would rock the community.
- When the area you live in can call itself a community. A cohesive group that works together, helps eachother, improves upon the area, etc.
- Neighborhood watch
- When your cops have nothing to do but catch speeders and be "resource officers" in middle schools and high schools.
- When you have a low rate of crime
- When your area isn't overpopulated with sexual predators, although I lived in a safe community and it seemed there were quite a few within 25 miles. :/
- When you feel safe to jog or exercise around your neighborhood.
- Where neighbors bring new people baked goods when they move in.
- You wave to people driving or walking by and they wave back with a smile, maybe even say "Hi ____" and know you by name.
- Community organizations, homeowners associations, afterschool programs for kids to keep them busy and legal.
- Keeping your house or car unlocked is an okay thing to do.

This, pretty much what I have to say, summed up rather nicely.

When it's unbearably boring.

Seconded.

The place I moved into last year was supposidly the worst area in my City. One year later and I've not seen any trouble or heard of any trouble. Sure a couple of 15 year old kids walk around in groups, whoop-dee do, I used too do that at that age. The worst thing I did during that phase was burn matches.

You don't, and you never can be sure that a neighborhood is "safe". The human mind is unpredictable. A man that had been sane and friendly for years could easily snap with no or very minute warnings. You can never be 100% sure because of human flaws.

You don't, anything could happen at ANY given moment. So, just keep an eye out and keep some kind of protection on hand. (And lock ALL doors and windows at night, basically, just use common sense.)

LMAO, I dont necessarily live in the hood, but it is right down the street from me and i can say that statement is true..

I facepalm everytime i see a group of white girls dressed like hood rats, (yes they imitate hood rats) and take a walk down the wrong street..
Its funny cause i always imagine they are like "YAY were so cool and hood" then end up on the back of a milk carton two days later HAHAHAHA

Its not too bad where I live either. If I'm venturing out though I see a group of them with beer cans at 8am and I'm just like "Ugh -__- wankers..."

Simple....look around the area and find alot of trash on the streets. If it's dirty, then that's the first sign that it's not safe.

Haha. Brilliant. Don't have any beer can wankers in my area luckily.

You don't. You just have to take the risk.

Can't really be sure. Even a small town has its skeletons in closets.
