I also wanted to add 1st Corinthians 14 which speaks mountains of what I really wanted to cover about this subject:

1. Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophesy.
2. For anyone who speaks in a toungue doesnot speak to men but to God. Indeeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.
3. But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement, and comfort.
4. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5.I would every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be edified.

Hahaha, great verse. I am still weary of spiritual gifts, I cannot fathom the gift of prophesy in this day and age, everything that needed to be said, I believe has. I mean all that I could see that could be prophesied is the coming of Christ, but that would be a contradiction for He is to come like a thief in the night. Perhaps you can explain, what would the gift of prophesy help with in today's world? Speaking in tongues, I can at least relate with, that is speaking with God, but then the question of rather or not they really are is a "church breaker". Divisions in the church would be more apparent I believe, for I doubt 10/10 will believe the one speaking in tongues is speaking in tongues, so back to my previous statement and argument.

20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Do not take things as they are question it, compare it to scripture. I would rather be in doubt then be wrong. That is to say, take everything with a grain of salt, unless scripture says otherwise lol.

I am Baptist too, but my church denies spiritual gifts. They believe that they served a purpose in the early church, and that they don't exist anymore. We don't speak in tongues, pray over the sick, or believe in prophecy... I myself am a very very strong believer in spiritual gifts, but this poses a problem that I have... My dad is the pastor... I turned 18 two days ago, and I plan on going to a church that believes the same as me and that has a strong family unity in the Body of Christ. The only thing is, I haven't told my parents at all, they don't know that I believe differently than them, and they don't know that I am planning on leaving their church. But I need to tell them soon, I just don't know how too. I am sorry if this is off topic, but if anyone has any advice for me, I would appreciate a PM.

I also go to a Baptist but, its southern Baptist Church. I also believe that they served a purpose in the early church, and that they don't exist anymore. As Paul wrote these are signs that will faide away. But praying over the sick and fath healing, yes I believe in them (note, I said fath healing NOT FATH HEALERS). Prophecy is also interpeted as Preaching the word of GOD or What every preacher does on Sunday. You may have noted the fact that I said I go to a southern Baptist Church, Well for me it fits my belifes and it seems to be closer to what the early church was like. BUT, saying that do I believe southern Baptist or Baptist or Pentacostal or Calh are going to be in Heven. NO, Just Born Again Chrishans as there will be no divitions in Jesus famly. Also note, I also believe in other spiritual gifts, like gift of Singing God prase, teaching Sunday School or being a Dr. or being a Mod for a youth based group web site.

I am in full agreement with you there my friend. Denominations will have no place in heaven. I goto a Orthodox Presbyterian Church, but I was raised as a baptist, so I hold true to both teachings. I do believe in the possibility of the spiritual gifts being of the present times, just doubtful of their application in todays life. I believe that such divisions in the church weaken her rather than strengthen.

I agree i think we'll all be in heaven haha but that's a different topic ^_^...wow.

nowadays prophesy helps in many ways. when people have true doubts of the next steps they need to take in their lives prophesy just helps confirm God's plans and it also helps edify and build up people in the body of Christ.

As for the signs fading away I have a verse that strengthens my views a little bit...but again all of this is a matter of opinion and I'm glad that I have people i can bounce ideas off of .

Acts 2:17 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

I hate to sound like youaredumb, but how could someone tell me whats going to help in my life, I might as a little kid would do and shut my ears and do the opposite out of spite. I say this to bring up a point, prophecy isn't true until it is proven. This is the only area I believe me and youaredumb would agree upon actually, if its prophecy, the bible says to test knowledge, to do so would imply to test it in our lives, compare it to scripture, someone telling me I am going to live a healthy and Godly life would not reassure me but make me doubt him and his faith. Now I know i will be healthy and Godly for that is what the Lord has planned for me, or at least thats what I have planned for myself. Its like defining God's will, or God's choice, who is this man that can tell me what God has in store for me. I dont know how to word what I am saying, and I appologize if I am being argumentative, but the premisis seems flawed.

Ahh, now you have left me confused and confuzzled mi'lady. Acts and revelation both speak of the gift of prophecy. But will we even be there to partake of this prophecy? Back to post trib and pre-trib arguments. I hope I can play devils advocate, even though I don't disagree with half of what you are saying, and you make it so hard when you bring in verses like acts lol.
