Okay, I think a threads like this is in need because everyone is uploading now. I have a few movies i wanna upload but they are too big, so lets list any shareware/freeware that we come across that can be used for video compression.
I'm not sure if shinji would allow links to any warez sites but i think rapidshare, megaupload, gigashare links would be fine.

http://rapidshare.de/files/16764546/Total.Video.Converter.2.60.rar is a converter i used. Link comes with serial and crack i believe. Can convert between AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG1, MPEG2, WMA, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, MOV, QT. In order to compress you will have to adjust the output settings.

Its a good conversion program anyways, if it the link doesnt work or is the wrong program, just check any warez sites or search for it in rapidshared.org because its pretty easy to get ahold of

woah o_O, its a shame that no one else is taking the oppurtunity in this thread but these links should definitely be stickied when the forum gets a bit more organized.

If the Internet was 100 people, 10 people would create content will 90 would indulge in that content. Welcome to the miniority.

Oh and Bokchoi.
Maybe its because people can find compression software by following these simple steps
1. go to www.google.com
2. type in "compression software"
3. find a good match fromt the relults
4. download.

Enough sarcasm for now. I'm trying to refrain from shitting on threads.

I upload quite a bit of drama and I dont want to compress to upload but keep the quality. Instead i split them with three clicks, wait for about 3 minutes and then it's done!!

Unfortunately i dont know a place to upload apart from my site so:
http://www.peweedesign.com/ezsplitter.zip

Contains programme and serial.

Easiest programme i've ever used...

Good for splitting files and/or selecting audio & subs on multi audio/sub releases. You can also compress files, though if you're splitting a file i suggest you choose "Direct Stream Copy". Splitting the file as "Direct Stream Copy" should only take a minute or two to save the file and it retains the exact same video quality as the original video.

That's probably the best program to use, as long as you know how to use it.

Simple Solution: Divx.com

Download the codec, it's one of the best out there and you ge ta 15 day trial, But that should be more than enough time to compress and upload your movie.

That's just a bad idea. VirtualDubMod is completely free and can encode in Divx as well as a variety of other formats. The ones that cbisram posted, can also encode in Divx. Trial software is simply not worth the hassle.

Another option that nobody has mentioned is ffmpeg. This is what some sites use to transcode videos over to flash. I know there is a windows version of this as well. This is one of the "everything but cook your breakfast" encoders. It does it ALL!. It is also very fast. The only downside I have seen is that it will not inject metadata for flash files, so after conversion you have to run flvtool2 against the flash file to get the progress menters to work properly on web sites. But all of this can be automated if you want to do something like crunchyroll, or youtube videos.

ffmpeg is a bitch to run, i sometimes make mistakes using it. I think virtualdubmod is a better choice or MediaCoder or scvc6000 isnt bad either

Virtual dub mod is what I use for compression, splitting, and implementing subtitles. I use Subtitle Workshop to make all my subs.

Sometimes I'll also use EO video for makeing short video clips and whatnot.

All of these are easy to find torrents.
