The world nowadays is becoming is very fast paced.
we would often lack time to attend to our personal needs...
and there is our very hectic schedules... classes or jobs and whatever.

Home for the aged are very common at resent.
Once your parents, grandparents or any elders that would reach a certain age wherein they can no longer attend to their personal needs... we have this option to take care of them or just leave them to the care of total strangers in those "home for the aged" until they die...

I admit that this is one of my fears...
I fear that someday i might become to preoccupied with my life and would do that to my parents or if not, my children in the future might do that to me.

I've visited a home for the aged and i was a bit sad upon knowing that majority of the old people there were professionals during their time. They are from a well-off family and owns a vast number of properties, but sadly their children are already living a life of their own to spend some time in taking care of them.

Would you do that to your parents?

I suppose it can teach us that we should be kind to our kids. They're gonna choose our caring homes.

we're a culture of extended families... the idea of leaving your elders in an institution simply horrifies majority of us..

my grandpa is 94 and is currently living with us for about 2 years now... well he's a sturdy old goat but he still worries us.. rather that he'd be in our care and die than die in the hands of a stranger.

No way.
My parents have raised me and looked after me. I'll return the favour if they choose to retire to my house.

so you are already imagining yourself being placed in such institution...
well, at least it'll be easier for your children when such time would come.

No 'Hip' kids want the elderly hanging about. It's a cruel fate, seeing as though the elderly have just as much rights as anyone else. =/

Oh and... what kids? I'm never having kids. :0

err...
id rather repay my parents
rather than give them away
to a public place for aged people...

its insulting and quite disrespectful
in my country's culture...
Posted 6/16/08
We don't have "Home for the aged" here in my country; They live with us until they die or some other relative will take care of them.
Posted 6/16/08
No...

I won't dump them in that institute. I'd rather live with them for their remaining years even if they're annoying... lolz... They're still my parents and they have my love and respect.
