I understand that manga is really popular in Taiwan. But are all the storywriters in Taiwain dead or something? Can't they make their own storyline for once or stop borrowing from Japan? Where's their own creativity? To me, I feel like the people who wrote the manga are cheated. It's a lot of work put into drawing the manga, making up the storyline, publishing it.

It's another thing to remake something if you're a fan and your actually honoring the original work but it seems like they are just trying to make $$ by taking other people's work. I dunno, I just feel kinda irritated about it cause about 80% of tawainese dramas are from manga. It just doesn't feel right to me. They also copy the storyline 100%, It's much harder to start from stratch to make up a good story than just take someone else's story and write a script which is basically 100% the same. -_-.

I know Japanese dramas are based off manga but that is a given, since manga originated in Japan. They put their creativity in the drama and even add/edit scenes not in the manga. Some fans don't like that because it's so different from the manga. I'm pretty sure they give proper credits. They are big on copyright issues. Like that incident of that korean singer Ivy being sued for using Final Fantasy graphics in her mv.

Also another thing, do Taiwanese people even get permission from the original author? or pay them $$ for taking their work. They copy like 100%.. I dunno about Asia but if they did that in the USA.. there will be a lot of copyright issues and lawsuits flying around if they didn't give proper rights.

A lot of them aren't. For example, all of the J-star ones are original, and they are a major entertainment group.
And of course they pay them. Why is it that if a Japanese drama is based on a manga you think they paid but Taiwanese dramas don't pay? That's a lot racist(or nationalist), isn't it?
Examples:
Brown Sugar Macchiato
Smiling Pasta
Westside Story
The Outsiders
Prince Turns Frog
Green Forest, My Home
Full Count
Legend of the Condor Heroes
Return of the Condor Heroes
Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber
Xi Shi
The Magician of Love
A game about Love
(all the J-star ones)
Mr. Fighting
Legend of Star Apple
Love Contract
New Breath of Love
etc.....

I guess ur just speaking ur mind.
I sort of agree w/ u but I think they pay before they
start making it into a drama or movie.
But then u could see a Taiwanese & a Japanese version or sometimes a Korean version.
And then u decide on which ones da best.

Because Taiwan loves Japan..
In Taiwan, they have a lot of Japanese influences. (If you don't know about the history)
But not all dramas are based off mangas.
A lot of them are original stories.

I'm pretty sure they do get permission..I mean, it's not like they're not taking credit of the story..they're just adapting it into a Chinese version.

I'm sure all over Asia, they adapt each other's work..

Yes, I do agree with you that Taiwanese people copy their drama story lines from mangas, but not all of them. There are actually lots of original storylines out there, believe it or not... I think they only copy 30% from manga story lines. I can give lots of examples of GOOD Taiwanese dramas that are not copied from mangas:

Rolling love
Marry me!
Fated to love you
KO one
X family
Romantic Princess
Brown sugar macchiato
Bull fighting
Bump off lover
Corner with love
It started with a kiss
My bratty princess
Reaching for the stars
Silence
Smiling Pasta
The rose
Why why love

Ofcourse they give the original story&author credit! I don't think Taiwanese people are plagiarists unlike some country I know...(Ahem, Indonesia)

I never read it before, but I've heard of it.
If you look here:
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/It_Started_With_A_Kiss
It says that it is based on it. xD

Of course they do ask for permission / buy it. If they didn't, Japan would have sued those companies or the director for copying as Square Enix had sued Ivy for putting in the animated setting that had occured in the Final Fantasy: Advent Children. And you shouldn't say "do Taiwanese people even get permission from the original author?" but write in "those directors" cause it seems like you are accusing Taiwanese people in general.

Btw, Legend / Return of the Condor Heroes and Heaven Sword Dragon Saber aren't Taiwanese Dramas, they're Chinese dramas.

Does it matter?
If a good drama can be made out of a manga by taiwanese directors, then let them go for it. Also, I don't think it matters where the manga originates from, because even it is from Japan, maga writers and drama producers are different people. And, as mentioned above, there are a lot of Taiwanese dramas not based on manga.

I guess, because the storyline is good. i dont really care, as long as they produce good dramas to watch. Also its nice to see different adaptations of manga into dramas.
