The Civil War began with the Confederates bombing the Union garrison of Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Fortunately, there were no casualties during the actual battle and the garrison surrendered in one day.

Ironically, one Confederate soldier was killed when his cannon misfired while bombarding the fort. Then a Union soldier also died and another was mortally wounded, when accidents happened as they fired the 100-shot salute during the surrender ceremonies.

Ahhh history. I kinda remember some of this stuff. I know this one general died because his group thought he was from the north so they shot their general. I think it was Stonewall Jackson.

It was accidental and his arm was amputated as a result and because of barbaric medical attention he died.

General Lee wasn't as racist as most people think. After the war he made a black friend that went to his church. I thought that was a pretty cool fact.

I agree, he was actually against slavery, but because he was born in the south, he thought it was his duty to serve his state even though he did not agree with their view point. A great general as well as a great American

It was Union vs Confederates
Unions fought to preserve the unity of the country (hence the name)
Confederates fought to secede.
Slavery was one issue although not the main one. In fact some states in the Union army were slave states and some northern states were able to get rich off slavery (Originally from slave imports and later cotton export).
