Thats because the browser is embedded into the system. Put that browser on any other computer system and it would be slow because of it's RAM-hungry nature.

The embedded browser is one of those security issues, because the browser had direct access to all the system. I think they were trying to fix that in IE7 with permissions, don't think it worked entirely great

Embedding stuff...wasn't that MAC's trademark...?

I use them both, but Firefox does seem to work better, even if it's just a little.

firefox (i've recently started using it), cuz you can have tabs in just one window and not 200000 separate windows that fill up your screen. and popups...i haven't encountered any.

you'll have to explain that, I don't have an entire understanding of what program in specific your talking about(unless you mean the OS only being sold on apple hardware, which in that case you should look at the illegal x86 project). I was just explaining *why* some people consider it faster. Its not entirely bad, but there is no verification(their working on this) when something bad comes along.

Unix doesn't have the same permission problem as a Windows computer does. Unix-based systems (Macs, Linux) doesn't grant any memory to malicious programs unless the user gives it permission. (so unless the user says so a Virus can't steal any processor power to replicate and infect anything. This is why Mac/Linux are immune to all but the toughest viruses) Vista is trying to correct this with its annoying user permission window (as mocked in the crappy "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC' commercials

*edit*

On a funny note though in a math class the teacher was trying to get us online to do these math exercises, and IE was displaying it all crappy. So I told my teacher that Firefox might do it better. He came to me about two days later and said, "Hey, remember how you told me to use that other browser? Well all my sites are displaying better and there are less popups and its running stable.." and then next day at class he advised all the students to switch to Firefox for the internet part of the class. xD I actidently converted about 20 people to Firefox

isn't maxthon a "browser shell"? that would be my only problem with it. Then it would still have the same rendering/security issues as IE? Like to hear back on you from that so I can give it a whirl.

1.5.9 build 80 [2007-02-11]
* Fixed several bug under Windows Vista, Vista is fully supported now <---
* Fixed a rare bug which may cause losing of settings
+ Added Navigator, you can hide it in Customize dialog

You can go back to using Maxthon ^^

The installation of Firefox isn't hard is it? I download most stuff at downloads.com, but I'm not the best at computers!
I'm using Bellsouth Internet Security and IE causes complications and won't let me go to certain websites while it's upgrading!

After reading this I think I will try Firefox.....

I'm trying opera now. its kind of annoying to have to push "ctrl+enter" for my remembered passwords, but otherwise very decent.
