where can we watch book 3 of the avatar?

Go to veoh, it has book 3 chapter 9 (3 weeks ahead of north america)

BTW this should be in the general section so the anime diehards on here don't get their panties in a bunch (cause I know this thread will get them going)

Yes, officially its not anime. But its just as good as many of the shows coming out in japan.

It's an ok show however at times it seems to childish for me. I like the element stuff...the fighting...but other stuff just saddens me. If they changed some stuff i would like it more. Sure...i will watch it...when nothing else is on...if something else is on...I'm sorry...

I actually like watching Avatar; it's a good casual watch. The anime-inspired look isn't anything new. Look at shows like Martin Mystery and Teen Titans. I believe I've once heard the unofficial term "Americanime" to describe such products. Well, it's a good look for Avatar, and blurs the line between American and Japanese animation.

Anyway, back to the show. The four elements thing is common in all societies (though not necessarily the same). Greek alchemists and Chinese philosophers alike claimed the 4 elements as water, air, earth, and fire.

But it has an exceptional dub... obviously, since English is it's original dub...
And the martial arts in it are done quite well. The fire based fighters use quick, deadly Shaolin like strikes, water benders have a tai chi sort of style, and one particular earth bender (Toph) seems to use a praying mantis like stance. The martial arts in it seem well choreographed and realistic... except that they attribute magical elements to it...

So there's my two cents on the show.

Yep, I just have this thread for talking about Avatar and anime influences on the show, not to ask for it uploaded (read the updates a while ago on what's allowed now). BTW, that's one awesome avatar Jay.

So folks just keep to talking about anime stylings in the show, such as
- the 4 elements aspects (kind of like Naruto with where they derive their special powers, which has also different takes on the official elements)
- martial arts styles and fights in the show
- shipping (which is far more prevalent in anime since there tends to be many characters on the shows, with multiple possible or actual relationships)
- cultural similarities to Asia (use of art like haikus and calligraphy, governmental ideals, fortune telling, fireworks displays, etc.)
- art style of the show (like the wide eyed drawing style, or the chibi short I linked above)

Later!

avatar is not influenced by japanese animes at all it is base on chinese fighting styles and it has nothing to do the japanese culture

Yeah first topic! Well I wasn't sure what to post about and then as I skimmed my fav sites, I came across this as inspiration:
From http://www.avatarspirit.com

If you go and type in a password (koh), you get one of the funniest chibi/super-deformed shorts I've seen this side of the Full Metal Alchemist (FMA) Short from the movie!

For those who follow the series, I like how this series has come along for younger and older fans, for shippers to casual fans. This short is just one of many anime-influenced areas I am liking more in all animation or live shows (I also watch Shuriken School and Heroes among other stuff so I do like to find those anime influenced shows too). So I guess I leave the topic open for discussion on if the anime influences are good and attractive to fans, what you've seen that is anime related on the series, and any other talk related to the show. Take care!

Japan's concepts of the five elements are heavily influenced by Buddhism. The Chinese five elements are called gogyō (五行), and the Indian five elements are called godai (五大). The following article explains the latter. ( is not from japan, if from china and then influenced to japan )

yes yes...but it just irks me so how much they talk about the elements. But they only use four, one of which isn't even in the chinese elements. They use air, water, fire, and earth but for Chinese there are five elements: Water, earth, fire, metal, and wood.
