Making Questions :

Usually you can change a statement into a question by just adding a か ka to the end.

あなた は アメリカ人 です。
anata wa amerikajin desu.
You are an American.

あなた は アメリカ人 です か。
anata wa amerikajin desu ka.
Are you an American?

•ka is added to the end of statements
•Word order is not changed as in English
•In Japanese (see right example) the ? (Question mark) is not required (optional)
•Just like in English, the last syllable goes up in intonation
•In spoken Japanese sometimes the ka can be dropped if you have the upwards intonation at the end.

Making Pronouns :

あなたは私の友達。
anata wa watashi no tomodachi
YOU are MY friend.

NOTE : The "wa" is pronounced as "wa" when used as particle even though it is a hiragana "ha"

•The 2 most useful pronouns are

•わたし watashi - I,Me
•あなた anata - You

•If you see わたし は watashi wa then you know it is the main subject (not object) therefore it is translated as 'I'
•In the same way, if you see わたし を watashi o then you know it is the direct object and therefore translated as 'me'
•This is the same with anata but in English both subject and objects are'YOU'

•Making pronouns possessive is easy. Simply add a "の" "no" after the pronoun.

わたし watashi - I - わたしの watashi no - my
あなた anata - You - あなたの anata no - your

•Example

あなたは わたしの ケーキを 食べました。
anata wa watashi no ke-ki o tabemashita.
You ate my cake. [notice the wa marks the main topic & the o marks the direct object]

あなたの うちは わたしの うち です。
anata no uchi wa watashi no uchi desu.
Your house is my house.

Pronoun List :

This looks complicated, and it is, but there is a pattern

•NOTE: Both wa or ga can be translated as the subject into English

SINGULAR

•Subject
わたし watashi +は wa OR が ga I
あなた anata +は wa OR が ga YOU
かれ kare +は wa OR が ga HE
かのじょ kanojo +は wa OR が ga SHE
それ sore +は wa OR が ga IT

•Possessive
わたしの watashi no MY
あなたの anata no YOUR
かれの kare no HIS
かのじょの kanojo no HER
それの sore no ITS

•Object
わたし watashi に ni OR を o ME
あなた anata に ni OR を o YOU
かれ kare に ni OR を o HIM
かのじょ kanojo に ni OR を o HER
それ sore に ni OR を o IT

•Object Possession
わたし watashi の no もの mono MINE
あなた anata の no もの mono YOURS
かれ kare の no もの mono HIS
かのじょ kanojo の no もの mono HERS
Not used much

Plural

•Add たち "tachi" to わたし watashi あなた anata

わたし watashi - I, ME - わたしたち watashi tachi - WE
あなた anata - YOU - あなたたち anata tachi - YOU

•Attach That to:

[subject] ~ は wa OR が ga
[possessive] ~ の no
[direct object] ~ に ni OR を o
[ownership] ~ の no もの mono

•Add ら "ra" to かれ kare & かのじょ kanojo それ sore

かれ kare - HE, HIM かれら kare ra - THEY
かのじょ kanojo - SHE, HER かのじょら kanojo ra - THEY
それ sore - IT, THAT それら sore ra - THEY

•Attach that to:

[they] ~ は wa OR が ga
[their] ~ の no
[them] ~ に ni OR を o
[theirs] ~ の no もの mono

A little explanation for those who want to understand japanese =))
