I think there is two sides of a coin and there is not right or wrong.

Right: Plastic surgery for burn victim, victim involve in accidental of any kind that has misfigured looks, etc.

Wrong: To boost self-esteem, to make one more unique which does not make much sense since we are unique make and no one is actually like us and there is only one of us each. Confidence and beauty should not come from physical appear but from inner self.

well, doing it makes that person happier, but there to 50/100 chance that it would come out good and bad. But it make the person health is weirder. For Example: A man do plastic surg. to become a woman, they have to do treatments most of the time in order to keep their women beauty rest of their life, but that will effect their health, i think they will die earlier because they have to take shoots and those shoots have chemicals and stuff...
so i think its wrong...

Why do you care about how people spend their money? You do know that before you can actually get a tummy tuck or a nose job, the plastic surgeons send you to see a shrink just in case you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

I don't think it's wrong honestly, everyone wants to improve themselves and if they can afford it, why not? Practices have improved and I know that a lot of Koreans (my friend got her eyes and nose done before she even turned 16 in Korea!) etc do it and it's not stimatized. Then again, people in Asia only mostly do the double eyelid thing and maybe make their nose a bit smaller and pointed whereas people in America make it into the news all the time about their breasts, bum or otherwise. It's because of bad media really, the paparazzi and gossip news make such a big deal over plastic surgery that it's been framed in a bad light here, in Asia some parents let their children get it because they believe it'll boost up their potential for a better career and crap.

BUT, I do however, thing it's bad for younger people to get it because their bodies are still developing (you really shouldn't try anything until after 25) and plastic surgery can cause more harm than good if it doesn't work out. Annnnd, a lot of surgeons don't tell the complete truth. Some girl who wasn't twenty got botox because the doctor told her it would prevent wrinkles, that's not exactly true, it'd end up wasting her natural supply of collagen and possible cause more wrinkling later on in life. Personally, I'm for it and have been giving it some serious thought for quite some time. I've been wearing glasses since before I was 2, resulting in nearly 17 years of the bridge of my glasses pushing down on my nose. There's now a bump there that I'm extremely self-conscious about. I feel that if getting plastic surgery will make you feel better about yourself then go for it. Obviously, as others have mentioned, there are cases like burns or similar situations where plastic surgery is necessary.

I'm against young teens/teens getting it though. Especially when 15 year old girls decide boob jobs are necessary.

:/ I actually went to school with a girl who decided she needed a nose job. She was 15. What were her parents thinking?

I think necessary surgery, as listed in the first post are fine, but if it is purely cosmetic, i think that is wrong.

If you have issues with your body, then you need to work on your self esteem.

Its not coincidence that the suicide rate amongst those who have had breast implants is amongst the highest

When did this come back? *waves to thread*

@akali83 - is that true? Where did you here that though?

@lokita- ouch! I wear glasses quite alot but that hasn't happened to me. I think in your case i can understand why you would want surgery as it's not a major thing. If it makes you feel better and more confident in being yourself ^-^. It is only a small fault though. I had a girl cry to me the other day that she hated her left eye- it's apparantly a different shape to the other! I have quite a good eye for detail but i couldn't see a difference at all! It makes me think that all the small things i'm insecure about aren't even noticable to others. Either that or i've known her too long to notice things like that ^-^.

it depends...if you get it once to fix a problem you know is really bad, then its okay..but if its multiple times, then no.

it would depend on the circumstances. if it is badly affecting someone's self esteem on their appearance than maybe it's not a bad thing.
