For some people, they have been labeled from the very beggining as: "dork", "genuises","jock",etc.... Do you think the labels are even a slightest bit accurate? What do you think about the people who labels other people are like? What do you think the main purpose of labels are? Do you think the ones that are being labeled are benefitting any from it? Why do you think people "label," other people? Have you ever been labelled? Why? Did the label come off? How? [just a few questions to start the topic.]

I think labels are just one of the tools in life the people use to mark other people to a certain status. I think the ones that are really affected by this are the ones that are considered in the "low," group. I dont believe that labels are one bit accurate and believe that they are things that makes people life harder than it already is.

my teachers labeled me genius and absent-minded professor. my friends label me as either a 'unique specimen' or 'moldy burger'(referring to the burger in my bag that caught mold and rotted in my school bag for a year and i was too sleepy to care)

This is life. It doesn't matter where you go on this earth, you will always be stereotyped. Of course its not right but as people in some way we label individuals based on many pretensions; such as race, religion, culture, and much more. If labeling offends you, ignore the unimportant criticisms or differentiate yourself from "that group".

labels are extremely accurate. jocks accurately play sports, stoners accurately take drugs, metal-heads accurately listen to heavy metal, and so on and so forth.

but they are based on outside observations only, so you could jump to some crazy conclusions if you're not careful

it can easily be a hit or miss with labels...

like how my 3rd grade teacher labeled me as trash and then how I labeled her as a bitch~

can you guess who hit the target and who missed entirely?

descriptions are necessary but the accuracy of the descriptions is something questionable. Though being underestimated can be one of the best advantages in this world.... it is my favourite element of surprise.

Scientific Formula = Brain + Element of Surprise = Ownage
EOS = Ignorance + Underestimation

people label others on outside
personalities, abilities and appearances

they may be accurate or not

Posted 6/25/08
No, they are not accurate because I believe they are only opinions.
No one benefits from it unless maybe these labels would symbolize others as "upper class".

I believe you're using the term "labels" to refer to "stereotypes" or stereotypical characters that apparently end up falling within a class or "label" due to either their appearance, or attitude.

Many times, a stereotypes can actually be pretty truthful, albeit rather blunt or at times "taboo". Still, I believe it's good to keep in mind the fact that certain stereotypes exist, simply because human beings always create impressions upon the people they see as a form of preparing themselves (or defense, if you up the ante) for any possible encounter with the said individual.

Though it may seem bad or even mean at times, that's they way our minds operate. Whether or not we allow those impressions affect our judgement or the way we interact with the "labeled" denizens of a certain stereotype is really up to us. The fact of the matter remains, however, that they exist, and you should be aware of them. It's not much to ask why they're around or how we can do things to stop such labeling from occurring. It occurs because people either want to turn something they don't understand into something they can easily grasp ~ hence referring to intelligent individuals as "nerds", and clueless girls as "blondes" ~ or because it's a cultural occurrence that just so happens to be convenient when referring to a certain group of individuals.

Some people may be more careful than others in using these stereotypical labels, but that's pretty much reality, as we know it. Either get used to it, or cry over the fact that you're "four-eyes" for the rest of your life.

I believe that when people "Label" others, they just say what they see. If you're affected by it in a negative way, take a look at a mirror and say "Who am I?" If you believe you're just being yourself, then, the fuck do you care with them! Right?

Labels in Britain are different to labels in other places (i think). For example, in Britain we have:
- Indie
- Goth
- Greebo
- Emo
- Plastic
- Chav
- Punk
- 'Townie'

So many for so many different styles. Quite depressing really

Labeled? Everyone will get labeled. The secret to the whole thing is not caring what you get labeled I mean, you yourself know what you are. That is all that matters everyone will think they can label you and will but you know what you really are and it gets a lot easier if you learn to stop caring what other people think of you.
