This had always been on my mind for some time.
Would there be any religious themes in this?
If not, then how would religion affect the events of this particular part of Gundam?
If so, then what are some examples.
(The turtle thing is there in case you have no idea how to respond)

I think religion has some role in UC. Some Newtype theories deal with the existence of a human soul, which is usually connected to religion.

Newtype theory isn't based on the existence of the human soul -.- they mention it a couple times as an analogy of how Earth race can't think of the future and will continue the way they are and eventually kill themselves. Char's main excuse for dropping more crap on earth.
Newtype theory is tied closely to the theory of evolution, that newtypes are the next step in the evolution or furthering of humanity's existence.
As a role in the characters' morals and ideals religion could have played a major part, but to a certain extent, it is war after all.

I dont think religion would have played a big role in the UC universe. I just cant see a religion gaining enough support and momentum to change the over all out come.

It seems that the UC timeline doesn't care much about religion in fact, the only time where religion has a role in UC is in Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam.

it's more about scientific reasoning and facts of machines and humans, even if religion were a bigger factor overall it wouldn't change it b/c it mostly based on science, in their era no one would consider the alternate as a greater truth mainly b/c of all the discoveries and chances and changes science has evolved them in their era.

Maybe so, like there was in Gundam 00, it also played terrrorism.
IT would have been an excellent idea to put religion in it.
Adds to the story and makes it longer.
Even frictions between nations...and nationalities.
That would be my opinion.
And adding Ninja Faction of some sort would add greatness to it too.

Gundam has always been more focused on the political aspects of society rather than the religious ones, its been the main driving force behind the series since the beginning. While religion always plays a role in causing war, just like money and territory, personally I think its better that the series has stayed away from becoming mired in religious issues.

I think it was a post-religious society, for the most part. Little to no mentions of religion in any of the political speeches.
