Definitely the live action. The manga dragged on too much...

oh, gimme a freaking break. of course the manga is better! the manga is sorta special but the live action is very drama-ish not very diff from other dramas. don't get me wrong, it was decent but when you compare with the original, well, how can you?

it is more unique I think, the manga. and the characters too, they are WAYYY more appealing. soshi is amazing in the manga (I like hiro but...ahhh) and night too I can get (not too crazy about night) but I don't like the fact that they changed Riko's character so completely. the manga showed her as a really ordinary, even plain, cute blustering ass but in the drama, she is just a cliche good girl type trying her hardest to get on in the world and despite the adversities. that is just bloody boring. LIVE Riko is just good all around and even her bad traits are somehow good ones (I can't even think of anything!)

man...it is not like I am slamming the drama, so ppl, don't get mad. but the fact that the poll said that more like the LIVE to the manga is a little sad, that's all.

Like in the case of Death Note, comparing the manga and the live action is like comparing apples to oranges. Both have their merits, so just accept them as they are. The manga is what Yuu Watase wrote and drew, so I'm more likely to read it (when it is adapted for the screen - anime or live action - a lot of detail gets lost). I was reluctant to watch the drama because of the promotional photos when the news came out. I love Yuu Watase's males (especially Touya of Ayashi no Ceres) and though her stories might be a little predictable, I love these love triangles that involve the rivalry of a non-human and human male for a woman's affection. The non-human wins, but eventually has to die/disappear, and the woman is entrusted to the human (Such happened in Ayashi no Ceres and Zettai Kareshi). I still have not read Sakura gari, her boys love one, but I believe it'll be very good (I read some very good reviews about it). Shoujo mangaka have no problem transitioning to boys love (Makoto Tateno did it, after all, so I don't see why Yuu Watase can't do so). At first, I didn't think that Mokomichi would pull it off as Night (the promotional photos of him as Night didn't look good), but after watching the drama, I thought he pulled it off rather well! The blinks, head tilts, sudden smiles, and anything similar. Very robotic. I did not like what they did to Soushi, however, turning him into an irresponsible type (the older brother looked more Soushi-ish, if you compare them to the manga characters). He was also not as aggressive as manga Soushi (I like the part where he pins Riiko to the bed about his losing to figure, then Riiko gets away, turns around and puts him on the bed and puts her pillow over his face while she angrily answers him back.)

I wonder what Yuu Watase has to say about the live drama, however. Anyone know of a site with her opinion on it, whether she was involved [in choosing the actors, modifying the situation, etc.], etc.?

As it was said, there are positive things about both.
But the truth is that I prefer the live version. It has a more mature and realistic sense to it. So it drags more your emotions.
But it's a matter of taste anyway.

def the live action. the manga annoyed me

Maybe manga. I was definitely stuck on that ending; it was extremely sad. While the live also elicited the same emotions I think my imagination made the manga more depressing when Night shut down and when Soushi read Riiko Night's letter. I keep seeing the words "Don't cry anymore" over and over again; it's pretty heart wrenching! As for the live, I love the way Night left Riiko a message after his "death," and how she unknowingly interrupted him. All in all, the manga definitely took most of my tears.
