Megaman/Rockman 9 to be in 8-Bits?!
Posted 6/27/08
As Zero said in the OVA, the Day of Sigma,"You've got to be kidding me!!!"

Now I have another reason to tell my sibling about 'why purchasing Wii is a bad idea'... They should have at least make it look like MM Powered Up or something...

Here's a summary of information that would be interesting to read.

The story is as standard as any of the previous Rockman games, but with a twist. Robots are on a rampage, and Wily is coming back, but this time around, he states that the robot attacks are caused by Dr. Right, Rockman's own creator. Now Rockman has to prove his creator's innocence by defeating the new robot masters and finding the real truth behind the cause.

Inafune himself states the following about the relation to past Rockman games and the creation of this one. He says that the entertaining parts of a Rockman game "doesn't fit into the grandiose and expansive world that the consumer gaming industry has become, and so you have to make games that match the current expectations."

If the game would've come out as a retail version, Inafune claims that it would be criticized as being simplistic, outdated or too expensive, and with today's standards in making a game, bringing an 8bit game to retail wouldn't be a wise decision on a home console. This is why it's been decided that it would surface as a downloadable content, in the means of WiiWare, for the reason of reliving an instant classic much in the same way as Virtual Console games does.

The game will be created by Inti Creates, who gave us Rockman ZERO and ZX series, as well as Rockman EXE Battle Chip GP on the GBA. Their experience with the 8bit formula has been proven in the mini-game Rockman Antique that's unlockable in Rockman ZX Advent. The Blue Bomber will be controlled by placing the Wii Remote sideways in traditional Famicom/NES style, and hopefully, it does support more controllers. Inafune also revealed that while there aren't any new mechanical devices for Rockman to use to progress in the game, his trusted canine companion Rush will return, thus making sure that memorable classic characters are returning in the same fashion.

The reason they bring this game as a 8bit style game, is because fans being the most acquainted to that style since the birth of Rockman more than 20 years ago. Since fans has been playing the first games in the series an unlimited amount of time, and portraying his classic style in both fan productions on the internet and T-shirt decorations, it felt just right to bring the revival of our classic Blue Bomber back in a style that's most familiar to everyone. Being able to test the limits of 8bit graphics on a current generation home console seemed like a fun idea to pick up on.

The music will be styled in 8bit fashion too, not to mention cutscenes in the same way they were experienced in the past Rockman games. Pure 8bit progressive goodness. Inafune is also mentioning that, with Rockman 2 being the most favorite title of all time, he hopes that Rockman 9 will surpass that, and hopefully be able to keep bringing Rockman back to his roots with more sequels in this fashion.

His final statement is this: "The moment you've been waiting for is here! We're not just giving you Rockman 9, we're giving you a new Famicom/NES game. This is a game that brings back the fun of the old games, and I hope you all enjoy it!"

I don't agree with this, I suggest they make it like Megaman/Rockman 8 regardless of how long it took. I mean come on Duke Nukem Forever is finally releasing after so long in modern day graphics and all. How come Capcom can't bring this game modernly then?

I would love to see a Mega/Rockman game done Ocarina of Time style.

You mean 3-D? And do you mean Mario 64 style?

'sup

Like that, yeah....but completely better. I would a Mega/Rockman game to be free roaming and have more of an open world feel and movement. The gameplay could be "Gears of war" like(without the gore) and just have a more modern feeling

Well for your last statement, all the modern Mega Man games have sucked. Period. This is just a throwback to Mega Man's glory days and I see this as Capcom testing out the waters for games like this since all the games since Mega Man X 4 have sucked.

Dude well in your opinion they might have sucked, but I say X4 was one of the best and the ones after it were still pretty damn good especially Command Mission and X8. You can't say they suck completely, I'm sure they were great for the most part...

Actually yes that would be a great idea but Capcom is not that great but can be, in making 3D Megaman Games as you can see from experience as X7 and Command Mission, therefore 2D would be best for now...

I think Capcom could do it... Look how awesome Street Fighter 4 looks. It's time to modernize.

Yeah but that's if they decide to do it and THEY REALLY NEED TO.

Getting rid of Zero should be priority number one But seriously, It's time for them to step up and give Mega/Rock the spot light and let him shine again. A great, modern game would silence the critics.

Agreed except for the Zero Part...

I had to throw that jab in there like you throw jabs at Snake.

Oh Ok... :)

Hey man X7 was All right but they could've did better with it. And yes I forgot to mention Megaman Legends, Sorry but you didn't have to say Fuck man. Any ways I didn't play Megaman Legends much, the only thing I didn't like about it was the Story. Other than that it was a Great game.

Oh, it's cool, man. I just hope they finally let Mega/Rockman get a girl. I know Zero's got the long flowing Fabio hair, that turns the fangirls into mush.....but let X get some of the ladies.

Yeah and they are really cute and gorgeuously beautiful too even though they're reploids and it's a game. I say my comment Truly...
