FMA is still popular, the fact it ended doesn't change that. True you won't here as much fan discussion about it but it has already earned its place amoung anime legends. If the producers decided to make a movie or an OVA or something it will be resurrected instantly.

I would much rather have a brilliant series such as FMA come to a fitting ending than turned into a cashcow series with endless fillers like Bleach...*sigh I remember Bleach used to be good...

You hear about Naruto everyday, but if you were to carry out a poll asking people to rank which series they liked more, FMA or Naruto, FMA would trump Narutard (sorry couldn't resist) by MILES.

Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo!, Dragon Ball...

those were all a major part of my childhood and I can't find them anywhere any more. Such a shame, they'd be as brilliant now as they were back then.

You could argue that Dragon Ball is still living on through the video game franchises, but personally it began to 'die' after the conclusion of the Cell Saga in Dragon Ball Z. The original Dragon Ball is still the best, though.

it can only be for an ongoing anime. anime that have only 12 to 24 episode or more cant really die. to be fair it ends so its over they dont die they just end. while some anime that ongoing that everyone stop watching they the ones that die. and in the end it the anime that have only few episode that are the best. they are the one your en up remembering while one you keep watching and watching and never have and and one day you outgrow it or get bored and you never watch it and the anime never ends then they become so unpopular that they never make an ending and so it goes unfinished. that is how truly an anime dies without actually having an ending. to be fair short anime that only had few episode i still watch when i am bored because they also so much fun to entertain you. i still watch Beating Angel Dokuro-chan every so often for the laughs and its old but who cares it more fun that watch naruto for hours and hours and hours and hours and guess what the battle still going on and its not even then season final boss. XD

I'm not exactly sure how popular it was, but I used to see references to Ranma 1/2 reasonably often, after the show was already finished.

Now I almost NEVER see a reference to it.

I'm sure most of you are confusing anime that... well... frankly it just ended i.e. they wrapped the story up and there wasn't any point in continuing.

A GOOD example of an anime that died is D-Grayman... it DIED

and... er... probablly Get Backers.
