Like, even by boat. If any of you have any good information or experience, speak up! I have a friend who desperately needs to get there this summer, without money.

It'd be a lot easier if you tell us where your friend lives.

What's his budget? He's gonna have to take a plane to get to Japan, pay for a hotel, food, supplies ... etc. You need a good amount of money saved up no matter what.

If he's going to visit family then they should at least pay half the cost for a trip.

If it's a friend he knows and trusts then they should pay some of the cost for a trip.

If it's for someone he met online then he shouldn't go.

The Best Answer: Bring him to my house, I plan on being being a stow away on a trip to Japan and I could always use a scapegoat.

I don't know if this practice exists in the US (due to security issues), but he could ask to be put on a stand-by list by a certain airline, so if there's a spare cancelled or unclaimed seat at very last minute, he can take it. It's sometimes offered free or with a hefty discount (can be up to 80%).

Cons: the waiting period is painfully long. It can last for hours or a couple of days. He can't leave the airport during the wait. He can't choose when he can depart or return.

Does he know anyone who works in the industry?

Hitchhike to the west coast... Build a giant sling shot... Load your friend into it.... Fire!... Pray...

When my dad was young he used to bum around private airports, befriend pilots and fly with them... but... that was ages ago and I doubt that'd be possible now, but that's how he got to fly places for free...

The only way your friend can get there without paying a cent is to have someone else pay for it or if he has a relative who works for an airline.

doesnt work anymore btw.
It's a thing of the past. You use to be able to get dirt cheap tickets on stand-by, but not anymore.
Get a job. There's a few months before summer arrives. Japan is expensive to go to from America.
