Korean Men having to serve at least 2 years or more in the Military
Posted 6/27/08 , edited 6/27/08
I just figured this out a couple of minutes ago and I'm pschyed. Men in Korea have to serve the military for 2 years or more. Because North korea never signed a peace treaty with South Korea they're basically kinda still at war. Even celbrities/stars have to serve the military. Damn that's kinda freaky! I mean what happens if there are like people who strongly dislike or love you . . . Will yeah the only way you could get away from the duty is if you're a U.S. citizen. I'm not sure if the women in South Korea has to server but In North Korea the women have to. And here's a tiny bit of more description about the drafts.

Edit: If the people there try to avoid going to war, they could get banned from being in Korea, or even thrown in prison.

It's pretty much like NS for the Swiss and Singaporeans, so it's nothing special at all.

Waaaaa! But than I never knew that they did this in Korea! I mean I was pretty shocked lol. And the people there don't want to go through the military, because it's basically like prison. And if they try to avoid going to the military, they could get banned from Korea and even be thrown in jail.

This is what they call "Imprisonment"
I guess they still do not want to be reunited the peaceful way...

It's not like being in a prison :/
Serving in the military is honourable for the men in South Korea. Celebrities should not be an exception when it comes to these types of things.

I'm Korean and thankfully my bros don't have to serve military...cuz we're all us citizens...and i don't think it's hardly THAT bad...i mean, it's just two years and i do believe, if you don't go by a certain age you have to pay a ransom (a pretty big one, of course heh^^) or MAYBE get imprisoned...
yes, if celebrities were an exception, the govt would be worse than it already is...geez...
popularity can't win over the rules...right? ^~^

Eh, wrong section. (maybe)

*sigh* when will the flower power time come for us? All countries still have militaries and weapons....as long as those things exist we will still risk to get involved into a war, thanks to the power-hungry people.

Because people are insecure and paranoid about their assets...They believe there someone out there coming to get them/steal their stuff and such...And they are right...There are people craving for power...

I think they have to do that in Israel too. Most nations in hostile areas or situations have a mini draft type thing. World peace isn't going to be achieved if everyone gives up weapons and militaries. There will always be a crazy nation out there that doesn't, and that will take over other nations.

They have it in Iran too. My friend is delaying visiting his village for around 7-8 years more so he can avoid military service.

I don't see anything wrong with it~ two years of military training can do a lot of good for a man :)

kinda sucks that that woman can't join the military in some countries :\ (unless I'm way off based about that and they can)

its nothing special at all. im also rendering my service to my country as a soldier (mandatory service) and it is definitely a subversion of freedom (i only get to return home once in a while and my vocation is a pretty tough one; i've to train and train everyday from morning to night literally) and being controlled by the military, but afterall, contributing to the country is an obligation.
