Funny story for me as I could never stomach seafood or anything remotely fishy, so RAW fish was certainly out of the question. But I finally said to myself one day "Alright, if you're going to be so obsessed with Japanese culture, you'd better learn to like their food." So I forced myself to keep on eating it, and now sushi's my favourite kind of food.

As for my favourite Japanese food, I just like a simple salmon don. And some green tea on the side, but that's not exactly food.

Only thing Japanese I've eaten was sushi made at a local Japanese sushi bar. It was very good, though I wish I could eat some of the foods you see at those festivals or street vendors in anime. That shit looks good.

I've only had Japanese curry and mochi (and loads of miscellaneous junk food - Pocky, I'm looking at you).
However, I was watching Blood C last Sunday and it's the episode where Saya tries Guimauve for the first time.
I suddenly had a massive craving for mochi.
So yesterday I drove the 90 mile round trip to my closest Asian supermarket and stocked up on all kinds of basic ingredients and I plan to try a few recipes. I also discovered today that Sainsburys in the UK stock a few basic Japanese ingredients.

I've had some kind of sushi once, and I've had ramen - that's all the Japanese food I've ever eaten. I preferred the ramen.

Anything made with matcha. I love that there are so many Japanese fusion recipes that incorporate matcha into other things like matcha eclairs with matcha cream filling... om nom nom. I once tried to make soba noodles with a matcha sauce - my husband said that was taking things too far.

Definitely ramen! I love absolutely love it! When I was in Japan I ate steamed buns in Takayama...which were so good I ended up going back for another.

I was never keen on sushi, the idea of raw fish urgh....but I've been making myself try some and have really enjoyed what I've tried so far!

Okay, but like...Cold udon with tempura and fried chicken and umeboshi onigiri. And matcha ice cream and ichigo daifuku for desert.

Also a weird favorite, sukiyaki! I didn't think I was going to like it but it was so good.

Favorite type of sushi would be a toss up between salmon or tuna. Grilled eel is delicious, having been to Japan last year, I went to a place in Kyoto that's famous for this. Tempura is great any way you make it, but shrimp tempura is my favorite. And all of those noodle dishes. Perhaps the best noodle dish I had in Japan would have to be a seafood udon I had in Tokyo with scallops, shrimp, and crab. Wonderful stuff.
