China and democracy

Yes, democracy is good, but some countries aren't ready for it, including China. So, stop whining about the CCP (who are doing an exceptional job of reforming and opening up China) and their 'dictatorial' rule.

First of all, a lot of China's population are illiterate. Not being able to read does pose a threat to voting, right? Also, people can be bribed to vote for a certain person, because they need money.

China has been under imperial rule for 4000 years. It's hard to change from absolute rule to complete freedom. Communism is a stepping stone from imperialism to democracy. It takes time to change things, and China has a lot of people (1.3 billion aprox.). The older generations still hold on to the old traditions, so the government must take things slowly before China is ready for a democracy.

If China was a democracy now, chaos would be the result. You all saw what happened to Russia.

Any other points?

The problem is always the education system, IMO. I'm a firm believer that when the matter involves the people's interest and concerns, then people have the right to know. The Chinese Cultural Revolution in 1964 was therefore a direct violation against the Chinese people by the CCP. And as long as the Chinese people don't understand the concept of freedom, they aren't ready for democracy.

Thomas Jefferson once said that "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." This means that people need to be aware of their own actions, and their surrounding, in order to safe guard their rights and freedoms. As long as the Chinese government failed to inform their citizens, China and its people aren't ready for democracy.

Hong kong was returned to china 12 yrs ago buddy, and plus China along with the USA their government is corrupt, no denying the fact. Even if the country is changed into a "democratic state" it's inevitable that the same powers that were pulling strings in the old government will return to power behind the lines. Remember this guys democracy doesn't grant you all the basic rights! There will ALWAYS be some kind of loop hole that the government will pass. Look at the USA right now their "Land of the Free" what a funny line when their country is being controlled as a militant state with the military patrolling the streets harassing people....plus having their 1st (freedom of religion, press, expression), 2nd (right to bear arms so that a free state is kept), and 4th amendment (right for search and seizure) slowly but surely taken away.

People have to look beyond the little poster of "changing into a democracy" and look at the bigger picture behind it. If a serious change is in deed required then you'll need to get rid of the ones controlling the government behind the lines.

I so agree with this. Some people don't even have an understanding of the Chinese culture and history and all they can do is judge China because of its communism and making it out to be something real bad. Since China isn't democracy.

What I don't understand is Taiwan. Why exactly do they want to become independent? They'd suffer without Chain's support and if they ever do, they'd probably be invaded by foreign powers sooner or later.

Also, I don't actually understand why Taiwan has their own government, ROC...and I know they are rivals with PRC in mainland China, but can someone explain to me how they came about please.

I agree with the two upper posts. They are a lot of underplots going on within governments. Successful countries are indeed not as democratic as we think they are. I think that those who desperately want democracy dont understand yet that, at the all end, nothing is decided by the citizens. Decisions are hold in the hands of multinationals, strong governments, militaries. One word from Bill Gate weights N times more than Nx999 complains from Mr and Miss everyone. This is it, and let it be.

I just hate it when people automatically hates Chinese just because the country is communist... (there are good people in communist countries too D:)

what do u know about democracy?! do u think that what many countries have now is democracy??!! come on!! this story is for the garbage! no one has democracy! because democracy is a very difficult system! do u have any idea of this? pure democracy is when everyone says his opinion and the group together will stay and discuss every single aspect and opinion, and all together will make the final decision! that things that we have nowadays are NOT democracy! so u can imagine the result of some billion ppl talk to make a decision!
it's not that china can't have democracy,or isn't ready for it. it's the fact if they can! think about their civilization then...they are used to that kind of life.to that system. besides in democracy decisions can't be taken rapidly. and that would be a problem,as well.

sorry,if i was a bit irritant but u must know some things, before wanting to discuss them.

i totally agree with u!!!! u have a really good point there and i will develop it a bit.

i don't know if u heard people this year about the uprisings here in greece...
well,my friend u are right with that thing u said becoz: our constitutional says that all the bodies of class(police..etc) MUST OBEY the people(λαός in greek). becoz WE are the authority actually! what do u think it happened? the police was fighting in the streets with the people!!! well, with kids our age seems the better description!!! SO im asking..........where the fuck is that notorious democracy??? huh? nowhere! the system let us down,so we have the right to let it down as well! i don't know what's goin on in other countries but here, the young are just pissed off!!
