No. You don't have to be watching/reading the yuri/yaoi because of their sexuality or the sex. There is no problem with being straight and enjoying an anime that has yuri or yaoi in it. You are only comfortable with your sexuality if you are able to watch two people of your gender engage in some sort of romance, even if it's just kissing, and not get turned on or grossed out by it.
I'm a lesbian, and yes I like yuri... but ONLY if it has a good storyline and convincing characters. But I also like yaoi. I don't watch these to be aroused or anything, I watch/read them because they are just like any other romance, just showing it between two people of the same gender. And I think that's great.

I got no problem with women reading yuri or yao. That doesn't indicate anything. However if a male reads yao, the guy is kidding himself, in denial, or full-blown out of the closet.

Never read loveless. Don't know what its about. My assumption is that it is not full-blown yao. It probably has some straight elements to it. Even if not, I respect your straight male friends. I won't call them gay or anything like that. I will just assume that they are the truly open minded people who is willing to try anything not to be deterred or disgusted by things that are different. However, I would like to point out that such open-minded people are probably the types to experiment once or twice in their lifetime which pretty much means that they are closer to the blurry line than most if not at the borderline bi-sexual. This is just a hypothesis so I hope it doesn't offend your friends.

i don't think yuri or yaoi defines you as lesbian or gay, and it's kinda ignorant of someone to just assume that. most guys just watch yuri for their own pleasure, and girls pretty much like both. i think that if the yuri/yaoi show has a good story line the show can be really good...like gravitation!!! <3<3<3

I don't believe so, I know plenty of completely straight girls who watch yuri and completely straight boy's who watch yoai. It is all a personal point of view. For some, thier habits of what they watch is completely different from what they believe in thier sexuality.

Not really. A girl doesn't have to be a lesbian to watch yuri and the some applies to a guy who watches yaoi. Although, I won't watch yuri but I love yaoi, I wouldn't freak out if someone popped in a yuri and I had to watch it. I'm just not into, that's all.

no it isnt?
it's like its just anime?
it's just something that entertains you.
so it has nothing to do with whether you're les or gay? LOL.

That's a fucking stupid question. :| Just because you watch any show with homosexual themes/content, it doesn't magically turn you homosexual. There's more to yaoi/yuri shows than sex. They do have plots and compelling characters (or at least try to).
