All I know is you couldn't pay me to go near Yaoi...
Not exactly keen on it's counterpart though either. In my opinion they're almost invariably fap material and nothing more.

I don't think that anything you watch/read for entertainment value should define your sexuality. There's nothing wrong with someone who is heterosexual watching something with homosexual under/overtones. I'm a straight male, but if something catches my attention plotwise then I'm not going to turn away just because of what the gender pairing is. Even yaoi.

The bottom line is as long as you enjoy it. and you are comfortable enough with your sexuality, keep watching or reading it. Do not let it, or anyone else, define your sexuality as only you have a right to do that.

Don't really think it has to be that way, yeah certainly a gay otaku boy or girl may like yaoi or yuru respectively but straigh people might like it as much or even more

kind of a cliche answer i know but I personally think what you watch has anything to do with your sexuality

Besides tommythecat is right, even girls can't argue this manga is diabetes inducing cute:

Yaoi is drawn for and by women most of time. It's not something that a guy, even one who is attracted to other males, would normally find attractive. It's not even close to an actually representation of how a gay male relationship works. On the other hand, there is bara, which is made for and by gay men. You're generally not going to find a screeching fangirl or a curious straight guy who is interested in bara.

Yuri is generally drawn for men, by men. Although, it's a little strange, since there isn't much of a yaoi-bara situation with yuri, considering that there are a lot of lesbians (and straight women as well) who like yuri. I don't really get it.

Not exactly the same but i've got a straight friend who has seen pretty much every "lesbian movie" ever made. She's completely hetero, but she really likes the idea of a relationship between two women. I imagine heterosexual girls might watch Yuri for the same reason. Never known a hetero guy who took an interest in "gay guy movies" but I have to believe they exist even if it is less common.

Unrelated but since this topic has the word Yuri in the title it's good enough for me. Most Yuri/Shoujo Ai is fucking terrible. I don't like complaining about how something is cliche, but if there's a more generic genre of manga/anime then i've yet to see it. Do something, anything different! If I get recommended one more series about a shy, younger girl and a tomboy "sempai" meeting and having a dragged out, melodramatic romance while attending an all girls school i'll off myself.

Romans. 1: 24-27: Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness,+ that their bodies+ might be dishonored among them,+ 25 even those who exchanged the truth+ of God for the lie+ and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created, who is blessed forever. Amen.* 26 That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites,+ for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature;+ 27 and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female+ and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males,+ working what is obscene*+ and receiving in themselves the full recompense,+ which was due for their error.+

There's nothing wrong with being able to enjoy fiction that doesn't cater to your own sexual preference. If the story's good, the fact that it's yaoi or yuri shouldn't stop you from reading/watching it.
