Alright is the south killing hip hop? Most of these wack artist with horrible lyrical ability is coming from the south. It is like you hear a new artist from the south every week who comes out with a nice beat but when you buy his album it SUCKS. Now there are some talented rappers in the south such as T.I., Chammlionaire, Paul Waul, UGK, Ludacriss, Lil Wayne (he is a little overrated in my own opinion). What you guys think about the south and hip hop today?

Well I rep HOUSTON, TX ALL DAY, BABY!!!

thing is the South emphasizes emotion (the music u dance to) in their music whereas the Eastcoast emphasizes education (the music u nod your head to)

Majority of southern rappers make club music, in my opinion ass shaking & club dances (ie the soulja boy) replaced breakdancing, one of the fundamental elements of hip hop.

Honestly theres not just 1 culprit in regards to the death of hip hop...
-Corporate America
-Ignorant people whose sole purpose in life is to get $$$
i'm sure there are more but i feel these are 2 big ones

Welcome to the South, Try to criticize us for how we live
And go do the same thangs that we just did,
Better watch your mouth, try to criticize us for how we spit
Then say you respect the money that we get,
Welcome to the South, Must you criticize everything we did
Then expect at us to never even trip,
We more than grillz and candy paint so be careful what you say
Cause we must just throw it right back in your face, hey
Better watch your mouth

-Chamillionaire- Welcome to the South- Ultimate Victory

ALSO if i may pose a sub question.....Who do you think is the real King of the South

Im not sure I just know its NOT T.I.

canidates:
-Scarface or Ludacris

To me it just seems like most of the good southern rappers arent getting much radio play as the trash ones. I am telling you turn on your radio right now and 80% of it will be club songs. Now I am not saying nothing is wrong with club songs BUT IF THATS ALL YOU HEAR EVERYDAY 24/7 IT IS TIRING. And thats pretty much what hip hop is today. Now yes I do live in Texas and I use to live in Houston and now I moved to Dallas. I agree Houston has some good lyrcist but they just not getting much radio play as I stated before. Boy I bet ATL radio is straight garabe. To answer your question who is king of the south thats still a tough one I have to think on that.

its actually a good thing and bad that the good rapper in TX arent mainstream, cuz they havent sold their souls for a couple $$$. Trae just said last week that BET didnt wanna put on his videos becuz HE REFUSED to put bitches in thongs on in his video .... Scarface has been saying the hood stays truest, besides his career has long been established.

well down here in the ATL, i hear all types of music
in my opinion, its starting to get worse from what i hear. it's like you can make a song just about anything now. i could make a song called "Tie Yo Shoes" and it'd probably be #1 on the charts as long as it has a good beat (and if i get real stupid with it) a dance as well.
i just listen to my iPod these days now

I have southern pride since I'm from Florida and everything but, I have been getting so damn annoyed with this shit I've been hearing lately. People like Soulja Boy and DJ Unk don't even deserve the title "musical artist".

But you'd be a moron to say that JUST THE SOUTH is killing hip hop. It's a lotta east coast and north shit that had way too much violence. People were gettin shot in their own studios and shit. People wanted to get away from that and just have a good time.

That's the reason why southern hip hop is dominating.

This era won't last for long though. Soon there will be more emerging different artists that will change the game.

Hip Hop is NOT dead, it's just in a coma.

Mayne i was gonna quote Cham but crasyjack went and beat me to it but i think you missed the most well said part though.

Chamillionaire Ft Pimp C - Welcome To The South

"I won't lie and act like
that I'm the one supportin everythang
Like Southern rappers ain't never lame
like some of these boys don't eff up the game
Most of us do our thang
and the rest of 'em leave my ears in pain
But that's him and he sure ain't me
so don't look at us like we all the same"

Cant really take the first post seriously when you say there are good rappers in the south like Paul Wall i aint gonna front i like Paul Wall but i know that he is whack lyrically and mainly all his songs are club songs which is seen to be the cause of hiphop dying especially from the souths point of view.

But no i dont think the south is to blame nor do i think hiphop is dying you cant blame rappers for making crap songs because all they doing is making money, even if they are shit you have to blame the people who buy that crap although it sucks its there opinion so you cant argue against the majority's music taste they jus following a trend whether people who know hiphop music realize these soulja boys and others are whack like it or not.

You hit the nail on the head, brah.

The same music we're talkin about is selling A LOT.

That's what the people like to hear.

They're not so focused on the lyrics and the objective of the song. They just want to dance.

not that its bad or good but music with repeatitive chourus' & simple lyrics that just makes you wanna dance isnt anything new in the south-- just go to a black baptist church in the south you'll see what i mean-- its apart of our heritage dating back to the times of slaves on the plantation

Exactly.

It only evolves as new genres of music emerge.

Except now, it's making people of ALL RACES dance.

That's why this Southern club style of Hip Hop is so strong.

So basically you guys are ok with only one hit wonders? And artist who makes the beat of their music popular rather then themselves making themselves popular. So if hip hop isnt about lyrical ability anymore but just dance music only then I dont tihnk it should be called hip hop anymore. I cant remember the name but I know there is a genre of music just for dancing only.

Hip Hop is the umbrella term... Crunk music, Snap music is the more accurate term. In the media the broad terms are used most often

Personally, I don't like every one of those one hit wonders.

But I didn't say I was ok with it. I was pointing out the reason why people like them so much. I like to see things from BOTH sides.

But let's not forget that Hip Hop is VERY broad, and has many different types, just like rock does.

Just one type of Hip Hop would be boring, anyone will tell you that.

Well, I am from Memphis and the radios tend to play crunk/snap music A LOT. So I really cannot say if it is destroying the hip hop world. When you are used to hearing that kind of hip hop you'd think it's popular. I hear many people from the North who say that the South is ruining it. I think it is more of a tie. As drizza has said, "there are some good artists from the South out there." It depends on who creates the new dances or songs. I think the South likes to have more of dancing to rap than appreciating the lyrics?
I don't know... I just listen to whatever sounds good.
