What is the most FAMOUS anime for you?

That's a really hard question since anime series' have their moments of 'most famousness'. They take turns. One manga series will be more famous than the others during the year it's released, while that'll take the back seat to a newer anime that might become the most famous in the next year, for example.

Vampire Knight. What can i say ?,, bravo!.. i love sucking blood.. *joke*.. Yuuki Cross, Zero Kiryu, Kaname Kuran.. really great!!...Yuki's earliest memory is of a snowy night in winter, when she was attacked by a vampire and was saved by another, Kaname Kuran. Ten years later, Yuki Cross, the adopted daughter of the headmaster of Cross Academy, has grown up and become a prefect for the school with two purposes: to protect the Day class students (humans) from the Night class students (vampires) and to protect the true identity of the Night class students from being discovered by the Day class students. Her fellow guardian, Zero Kiryu, a childhood companion whose parents were killed by a pureblood vampire, is now determined to kill them all and refuses to trust them. Through a cruel twist of fate, Zero becomes a vampire himself, having been bitten by a pureblood vampire four years before, Shizuka Hiou. Kaname, Yuki's savior, leads the group of Night class, with the help of Takuma Ichijou (the vice president).

Fullmetal Alchemist is another popular one. It, like most other anime series', started off as a manga (Japanese-style comic book) and grew from there. It's a series of fifty-two episodes and is concluded with a movie, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conquerer of Shamballa. So the series has finished but it's still re-run on various cartoon shows, and still has a strong following.

Wolf's Rain was also very popular when it first came to the English-speaking countries. The characters are gorgeous both in design and personality, and the storyline is heart-wrenching and strong. One of my favourites, as well.

Bleach is another popular series that's still going, as far as I know. It also started out as a manga series. It has at least one hundred episodes floating about.

Naruto is an extremely popular anime series (again, that started out as a manga), which centers around ninja villages and their inhabitants. It's very awesome, and worth taking a gander at, though the filler episodes (or episodes that deviated from the main storyline to pass time until newer episodes were ready for release) got me off of the series because there were just so many!

Death Note! Death Note rocks my socks. It's logical, grips you from the first scene and doesn't let go until there are no more episodes to watch! It's about Shinigami (death Gods) who have these notebooks that, once you've written someone's name in the pages, kill that person instantly. Very fun stuff. Not killing, but the anime. >>; *cough*

Dragonball is a trilogy (also with Dragonball Z, and Dragonball GT) that's very popular with typically young teens to young adults, though I recently met a thirty-year-old who loves the series and collects the action figures. *grin* Dragonball Z is probably the most popular of the three, and is my most favorite of the three, as well. Everywhere you go, though, I guarantee that at least one person you ask in each place will have heard about Dragonball Z.

Ghost fighter was a really popular anime movie in the late nineties and is still considered one of the better anime movies out there, even with today's techniques, plot of the story and the character...

Fushigi yugi, one of the top romantic anime..Miaka and Tamahome. I love the story between them, and also the other cast.they all rock.!

Ummmm, let me see...

Hope I helped you some, though there are plenty of other anime that I haven't mentioned. I've only watched a fraction of what's out there.

the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya is very popular

Ugh, I hate Vampire Knight

I think it's obviously DBZ and then Pokemon & Naruto. Definately not the best animes, but they're more well known on a larger scale than others.
