Tell me which you prefer, Eastern, or Western and why you prefer it.

I am more into traditional Chinese medicine, I used to always drink herbal medicine when I was sick(though it tasted gross), and my uncle treated me with qigong a few times. Tell me what you think.

One heals the spirit while the other heals the body. Unit to together and you get a great treatment plan. For more information please discuss additional cost with your HMO or local physicians.

Like all things it's user preference. I like to combine.

theres no such thing as western medicine. if you mean prescription drugs, antibiotics, hospital treatments etc then those are found in the east and the west. with doctors and researchers from the east and the west advancing this form of medicine. unless they have no hospitals in asia and ive just imagined it all...

i don't mind either.

but sometimes there are similarities between the two? like if someone was anaemic a chinese herbalist would give them herbs or ask them to eat foods to replenish their blood. if you look at it in a more scientific view, like the prescription of red dates to woman who are anaemic by a herbalist, it does work because red dates are a good source of iron, which is part of forming haemoglobin (red blood cells) in the body.

I don't believe in every single thing in scientific medicine or eastern medicine, but i think sometimes it's just a matter of different phrases being used.

i was raised using eastern medicine, and since it has virtually no harmful effects (unless you have some allergic reaction or something) i find it better than western medicine. but western mecicine can be more useful, when its necassary. the only time i've had to rely on western drugs was when i had severe pneumonia. besides that i don't see western doctors at all. viruses and bacteria also don't become immune to eastern medicine like they do for western meds. the way western doctors throw around drugs is setting themselves up for infection disaster.

my dad is an eastern medicine doctor. he does acupuncture, korean hand acupuncture, chinese herbs, nutrition counseling, homeopothy and is currently learning iridology. he is good at what he does, and can always take care of me when i need help. he goes around the country almost every other weekend to teach in different cities, and has even been slandered by western medicine magazines (which i take to be a sign of success). he has even treated celebrities a few times.

There's no doubt that modern (really you should say MODERN, not "western") medicine is superior to any kind of traditional medicine. With traditional medicine, some of it works and some of it doesn't. When it comes to the things that do work, those things work better when modern medicine has isolated the compound in the herb and created a modern form of it. That way you don't get other compounds that are useless and just cause bad side effects.

There are still herbs that modern scientists don't understand, but it's arguable whether they are better than comparable modern medicines. For example, Kava is effective but is it superior to modern anti-anxiety medicines?

And there are many herbs that really just do absolutely nothing.

Prescription drugs, antibiotics, hospital treatments originate from the West.
