Post-rock is a genre of alternative rock characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not found in rock tradition. Simply put, it is the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purposes. Practitioners of the genre's style typically produce instrumental music. The post-rock sound incorporates characteristics from a variety of musical genres, including ambient, jazz, electronica, and experimental. The traditional method of power chords is replaced with timbre and texture for guitar-play while the song and voice is abandoned by its ambience. The rebellious overtones of rock as we remember it is no longer the theme for post-rock groups.

One of my favorite music genres, sadly no one seems to enjoy this genre or any bands of this genre. Discussions, questions and recommendations are most welcome.

I don't know why you're asking about post rock in an asian culture / anime based website forum, but since I'm here I'll answer:

Japan has alot of great post rock such as Toe, LITE, Te (I don't really like them, but you might) and Mono. A Canadian based post rock band called Godspeed! You Black emperor is also awesome.

here's toe's myspace link: www.myspace.com/toemusic
you can find the rest on youtube.

It doesn't hurt to think that there are users here that aren't one dimensional when it comes to music no? GYBE is great! Thanks for the recommendations.
