in an interview, junki was asked whether iljimae would choose eun chae or bong soon as his love, and junki said that if he were iljimae, he would choose bong soon because bong soon sacrificed for him.

Picking someone just because they sacrificed for you is not really love. It's more like you feel like you owe them. He feels bad that all this time someone has been doing so much for him and that's why he picks her.
I think he really likes Eun Chae so if he ends up with anyone it should be her.

eun chae is the daughter of byun shik who was partly behind geom's father's death so do you think geom will mind that?
bong soon's and geom's love is still one-sided.
so who do you think he will get together with in the end?

I think Iljimae loves and cares for both girls...but in two completely different ways.

Bong Soon is like a sister to him. When they're together they're like two little kids playing and having fun.

But Eun Chae is his soulmate (sorry for sounding so cheesy lol). They have an understanding between each other, even if Eun Chae doesn't have a tragic past that Bong Soon and Iljimae share. Eun Chae understands the importance of the bird and the blossoms to Iljimae. And I think more importantly, Eun Chae's good deeds inspire Iljimae to help the poor citizens by distributing his stolen treasures (remember when Eun Chae defied her parents' wishes and went to the poor village that was infected with that deadly disease and Iljimae witness her determination to help the poor and her selfless-ness since she didn't care about whether or not she's contract the disease, and Iljimae decided to sneak in food and medicine for the villagers after?)

A lot of people here are saying that Eun Chae's too sweet, pure, innocent and boring but I think that she comes off that way because everyone else is a thief/con-artist/crooked government official/killer. I think the fact that Eun Chae is so calm is due to the fact that her family is so crazy. Some people say that it's like she was dropped on to Earth as a perfect person but I disagree with that. I think her character/personality is so sweet, caring, and calm because the people around her were the opposite of that (her father bribes people, her mother only cares about money + status, and her brother Shi-Wan spends his day gambling and drinking). Everyone in her family (except for Shi-Hoo) is irresponsible which is why her father put her in charge of the family's important records (like the finances and her father's faternity's list). Obviously she wasn't born perfect it's just that the environment she grew up in made her that way.

Anyways, I'm getting off topic so I'll just stop now.

Geom and Eun Chae came from similar backgrounds.
Yong and Bong Soon came from similar backgrounds.

When Geom and Yong's world collide... I would say Iljimae and Bong Soon. Around Bong Soon, he can be naturally and loveable. But around Eun Chae (romantically as Iljimae and not as the silly perstering Yong), he has to show case a stern facade.

Bong Soon and Yeong/Iljimae/Geom definitely have chemistry. You feel good when they are together whether bickering or sharing moments like in the island training, under the Yeong tree or with the special lantern. Every scene where they are together comes alive with their energy alone since both characters are spontaneous with their feelings and natural. Bong soon accepts Jun-ki in all his forms as the naughty Yeong, noble Geom and the vengeful hero Iljimae. Given the chance for a second season they could have made a beautiful love story, one that springs slow but enduring through many shared hardships and laughters.

In this season Iljimae may seem to have more lover like feelings for Eun chae but it is just a lingering feeling from a past life. After all, the base of that so called true love was a single hour spent talking about birds while he was 10. I'd call it infatuation for the first young love. In Yeong's life, Eun-cha is a perfect rich girl who condemns his acts and pines for the lost noble Geom and flirts with the hero of the town Iljimae. Jun-kis choice of Bong soon for her sacrifice is not out of pity but a revelation that love given unselfishly and persistently may find a way into that love ones (Yeong) heart, a chance at a new and more enduring love. Personally, Jun-ki may have also noticed the lack luster romance and insubstantial moments between Eun-cha and Iljimae. Who else would know better the character interaction than the actor who plays them?

Eun cha and Yeong as adults have nada chemistry to boost the pairing. Their Romeo-Juliet romance is too rehashed and the development was in so many ways lacking substance. Their scenes are plain flat w/o the overused music. Everything about them is constrained and awkward even the kiss. You get the feeling they shouldn't be together w/c might be what the director wants (hehehe). Eun-cha is too much the maiden in distress to be of any help to a hero who faces life and death situation daily. The young Eun-cha and Geom would have made the perfect aristocrat couple both are knowledgeable, idealistic and serene. Unfortunately Geom is the smallest part of Jun-ki in the present. Yeong is the more pivotal role and the most lovable in my opinion.

Bong Soon is of more help to Iljimae since like you said he's a hero who faces life and death situations daily but imo that's kind of more of like a job that a side-kick has rather than someone's love interest.

Eun-Chae isn't a complete damsel-in-distress she is useful and can help Iljimae too. Remember when she shot the arrow at the guy that was trying to kill Iljimae when he was on the roof (ep. 14...i think)? Iljimae wasn't aware of the presence of the man that was trying to kill him on the roof so if Eun-Chae hadn't shot that arrow then Iljimae would have definately been hurt.

In real life Lee Young-Ah and Lee Jun-Ki seem to have much more chemistry than Lee Jun-Ki and Han Hyo-Joo but personally, I think the characters Iljimae and Eun Chae should be together in the series.
