Now, Shape 1 should still be your selected layer, not background. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the shape layer once more. Your flwer should be now outlines with a dancing dotted line like the follow:


This next step is where you can really experiment! Photoshop comes with the option to "feather". Go to Select > Feather... (or click 'Ctrl + Alt + D' for a shortcut. a screen will prompt you to choose a number. Here are my settings:

O_O uhhh what if you want like ust images, and not out of the custom shape tools?

Me Neither.Maybe its the type of photoshop we have.i have cs3 extended,with no feather,so i lowered the opacity on the eraser. XD
