It's a terrible shame, but most people forget that many people in the world never think about being happy, just survival. Happiness is a luxury.

this is about poverty... not about academic pressures. try not living with the luxuries you have right now-- take out your fridge, your comfortable bed, your electricity, your running water, and any other modern conveniences you may have. oh, and don't forget to leave out your privileged education and ability to earn a livable income.

just think about it a little and you can guess just how hard it was for them to live life from day-to-day. they were born into those circumstances and never saw a ray of hope in their short lives.

i'm sure their parents weren't any help here either. a parent who is unable to make a decent living will pass on their sense of despair to their own children without even knowing it. if their parents had a positive outlook on life, then maybe things could have been different. but if they were depressed all the time about their situation, the children really would have nothing to hope for or look forward to in life.

I have very mixed feelings about this.
I may not live in a third world country, but I know what it's like to go hungry and hide what food you have (if any) because you don't know when your next meal will be. I know what it's like to live off of a slice of bread and some ketchup; and what it's like to be excited over roadkill for dinner. I know what it's like to not answer the phone no matter how much it rings because of debt collectors. I know what it's like to be kicked out of your home because you can't pay rent.
The feeling of helplessness when you are young hurts so so much. You want to help but you can't and don't know how. It hurts when people do everything they can to help, but all you can do is say thank you. It hurts when the kids make fun of you and spit on you because you look like an orphan and because you don't meet up to their standards. It hurts when you try so hard to fit in but you never do. It makes you stop and wonder if people would live eiser without you. If your mum could pay the rent without you.

But I also know what it's like to lose someone close. I have seen strong people break down and cry over the lose of my sister. Now that I think back on it I realize that somewhere someone will cry if I die. The hard thing is, is that most people don't realize until it's too late, if at all. Poverty wise parents may have a difficult time working while trying to support a family, but it only becomes harder to work when something is missing.

Children that young tend not to understand a lot of things. There are many factors involved including how they were raised. Suicide due to poverty is heartbreaking, but at least it's a more valid reason than most others.

i only got one thing to say, dun be too pessimist for your life. there may be lots of bad happening, bt u must believe that u r strong enough to cope with it. just hold on ur life, and it would be much better. Be optimistic guys! Life will not get too bad forever.

I agree with everything you said haizara_nezumi. I know someone who committed suicide this past year. I don't know what his underlying reasons were for doing it but he was leagues ahead of these kids. He was in college, living in a seemingly well-to-do household and had enough money to enable him to transfer to my university after Hurricane Katrina.

Everytime I compare his situation with these kids, I just can't fathom why he would commit suicide.
