Has the message and the sound of hip hop gotten better or gone down hill?..i think it has gone down hill a little bit but a few people have taken it back up to its original glory..

MORE SPECIFICALLY "In the last 10 years // each decade... has hip-hop gotten better or worse ?" topic ~jak

i dont think there is 1 clear answer, it varies amongst each individual... people who grew up on hip hop in the 80's said hip hop was declining in the 90's; people who grew up on hip hop in the 90's definately feel that its declined presently; & people of this decade like its music.... its a pattern of preference.

also it depend on what u listening to, i think certain rappers have improved since they first came out in the mid 90s i.e. Luda, Weezy, but most of the time when the state of hip hop is addressed, for the most part we automatically think, BET, MTV, & radio....underground & international cant be forgotten as well as the old heads that are under the radar i.e. Scarface, Rakim btw he murdered the track on 'Classic'

I know what you mean but what does that say about our younger generation and there values..like..just bought a Cadillac (throw some D's on that bitch) compared to a tribe called quest and lupe fiasco experimenting with sound making the music more visual than material..anyone who is really into hip-hop looks in more places than B.E.T and mtv or radio and yea he did kill it "age don't count in the booth when ya flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth"

Honestly the line between hip hop as a culture & art form has been blurred with rap. They are different but yet intertwined along with R&B. Honestly I dont feel hip hop died it just 'matured' into a state of immaturity in conjuction with a more street mentality ...?

my hip hop evolution tree -- kinda

--Breakdancing
------club dances
------stripper dances

Yea hip-Hop is far from from dead..I have faith in the fact that history repeats its self..if you notice people are bringing back the oldies in the their samples like eric sermon in his "music" single ft. marvine gaye or kanye west who sample someone in every single one of his songs..my only concern is that main stream isn't gonna give it a chance..lupe fiasco's food and liquor cd was tight as hell but no one got it at all or at least not as much as they should have..the immaturity and one track mind is gonna slow down the "maturity" into something more prosperous.

my tree didnt really have any specific order

But yeah i feel u on the whole hip hop coming back around, hey if enuff people bitch about how crappy hip hop is now change will be enevitable.

Lupe shouldnt change his style for nobody, i think he made it at such a high understanding so he could allow people to learn something (actually put in work to learn)

the only thing i dont like about underground is alot of people try to hard to be concious rappers & lyrical heavyweights.... if your vocab is so extensive & delivery so PSA sounding then to me its just like ......BLAH BLAH BLAH george bush is the real terroist BLAH BLAH BLAH elect obama BLAH BLAH

*these arent subliminal political messages, i really dont give a fuck about what goes on in capital hill, cuz they dont give a fuck about me....just my $$$...and im broke LOL

Absolutely. And it's always interesting to see guys like Sage Francis going from nothing with NonProphets to being massive with his new solo release (which I think is fairly tame compared to what he's capable of).
Also, is Oz, for some reason we have this incredibly tight, supportive hip-hop scene. And because of that I have completely lost track of what most of the mainstream's doing, which is probably why it upsets me so much when people who don't know, insist hip-hop is a dead form.
