im actually really alert and hyper in the morning and then get tired around 3 in the afternoon and then im alert again a couple hours later. i also like my school's starting time cuz you get to hang out with ur friends earlier in the day and we get more time off in the afternoon so we can go places with them. (or study more and do homeword...i hate studying) XD

I used to sleep the first 1-3 hours of school and probably the last 1-2 hours. LOL.

hmm. I like the timing of my schoo now
But I wouldnt mind getting a bit more sleep.
Ive already decreased on my snooze time
during the school year and i get 6 to 4 hrs. of sleep.

i wouldnt mind either ways, but changing it to a later time would
mean less time to do other things in the afternoon (work/hmwk/chillaxin)

4 to 6 hours of sleep? ouch. How come?

i guess technology plays a part in it. ROFL X)
im on the computer for hours during the school year
and homework lasts hours also. lol

High school was 'cruel' for me. I studied a private Catholic school in the Philippines. We must get to school before 7AM or get punished for being at least 10 minutes late. Then noon break at 11:30 and classes to resume at 1PM. We end our classes at 4:30 but then it's time for classroom cleaning assignments, and for extra-curricular practices like sports training, dance rehearsals, or Citizen Army Training (CAT) field drills. I usually got home by 7PM. We even have classes on Saturdays. The routine goes on 6 days a week.

When I finally graduated high school I felt like I just got out from a prison. I enjoyed a whole lot greater freedom in college.

But I had so many good memories in high school though. I still have that part of me that wants to go back to those days of innocence and curiosities.

Starting school in the morning forces kids to adapt to a cultural norm..

EXACTLY!!!!!! That would be the POINT of starting school in the morning! What normal job lets to start in the afternoon? Get used to it kids, it's not going to change, and for those who want it to change because you're tired, GO TO FUCKING BED!

I had morning sessions and afternoon sessions. Im ok with both. But I prefer having classes in the morning. At least I would bother to do my homework. If it was in the afternoon, it would be night by the time I return and I wont feel like doing my homework and the only time thats left would be in the morning the next day. And I dont want to do homework in the morning.

Well my middle school and high school started at the same time (it was a secondary school), so I had to wake up at 6/5ish (6 when I had to catch the bus at 6:30, 5 when I moved and had to drive to school) in order to get there by 7. Classes started at 7:20 and ended at 2:05. I mostly made it on time (earlier, in fact and got to have breakfast or finish last-minute homework) and never fell asleep in class or got really bad grades.

Now I'm in college and I've had the opportunity to have classes at all kinds of times -- the earliest at 8 and the latest at 7. I gotta say I really like the afternoon and evening classes -- I didn't realize how attentive I could be in class 'til I took them at those times, and overall everyone's in a pretty good mood (teacher and classmates) and easier to talk to. My grades are a lot higher than they were in MS/HS too.

I didn't get the 8 o'clock class til this past semester in my second year, and I gotta say, after having to only wake up at 9 to make a 10 o'clock class for a year and a half, going back to 6/7 to make an 8 o'clock was just murder for me. I think I made it on time 4 times the entire semester (amazingly, I still got a pretty damn good grade!).

So all-in-all, even though I did well in HS/MS despite the earlier wakeup time, I do like the idea of starting HS/MS a little later in the day. I know there are probably a lot of other variables to consider when I say everyone's moods were better later in the day and how my grades skyrocketed, but I do think time was a key factor. Also, it was easier to procrastinating my homework and papers for the morning instead of staying up all night :P

What time to start it though? I'd say maybe around 12 o'clock. Then you'd simply go to school early instead of staying after for tutoring, clubs, and sports.

I despise getting up at 5:30 in the morning for school >_> (my school starts obnoxiously early) but it does mean I have a free afternoon to do as I please, so I don't know.

u want sleep? go to bed early simple as that. if u pass ur time on tech, tv or watever its ur damn fault for managing ur time unless there is actual legible reason. Doc says more peace in the morning? wake up 2-2.5 hours before school, shower, brush, put ur cloth, eat ur breakfast(like real breakfast of eggs or oatmeal-hot meal is preferable ) and just sit back for a good hour or so with NO NOISE.

Back in my home country, for grade 1-7 u start 7:30a.m and at 12:30pm Mon-Fri. In high school, U start at 7:30am and at 11:50 am Mon-Fri. That means u get home 1pm and by 2pm u already ate ur lunch. how many hours left till bed time? 8 hours. if r smart u will do ur HW first(some more smarter ppl do in school during break or study time) lets say it takes 3 hours, u got 5 hrs left. wat u do? watever u want. simple. though my HW was done usually half hour before bed time cuz i played soccer outside in the street >.> i was i smart cookie with many offers to skip so many grades >.>

Tv, cellphones, computers, video games are few of many distractions. learn to minimize and control them and live as noise less as possible. it can do god to u.

I agree to a point.

I think it would be a lot easier on students to start later.I'm in the middle of switching over to high school so I don't know what the schedule is yet, but at the middle school, last year we started at 7:30 and this year it's 8:10. Except for mondays when it's 9am. And everyday, except mondays, I got up at 4:30 in the morning so I wouldn't be late.

I think it would be better to start an hour later at most.Starting in the afternoon is kinda stupid because, we would have bummed out doing absolutley nothing in the morning and be dead by the time we reach school. But starting way early because we just barley started opening our eyes and it's time for second period.
