Getting up early is supposed to get children used to the work schedule of most people when they get old enough. Also, it gives children more incentive to finish up school to have the rest of the day to have fun, study, do extra-curricular activities, etc. If you went to school at the end of the day, you would not have the energy to work as hard. Also, it needs to go along with your parents' work schedules to promote family time and where they won't have to worry about you while at work. You also live longer if you keep your sleep cycle with daylight. The more you sync your daytime with the sun being up, the longer you live.

in high school i started at 7:15am, so i woke up at 6:30..maybe later...and drove like crazy to get to my school. usually tardy, but it was SO early.

i actually liked having school earlier since you get a longer day. and i did good in school, soooooo i was fine w/ waking up early.

Yeah I hate getting up in the mornings for school. Could help me a lot if they changed it.

I remember my psychology teacher telling us about this in sixth form last year. Big mistake; if we were ever late for her morning lesson, or if we were all particularly tired and quiet, we just used this as an excuse... ^-^
