he is by far the most evil and yet the most human characters I have come across in fiction. What scares me about johann is that unlike other larger than life characters in fiction, he is so much more real and closer to human reality and hence so much more.... possible. I am not just talking about anime... i saw batman returns after i saw monster and i had heard people say that the joker is a genius and evil and gives them the chills and heath leadger actually did a brilliant job.... but I didnt even flinch at that character because i was like... dude... have u seen johann in monster? joker looks like a little child in front of him... johann is a literary masterpiece... I am amazed urasawa could conceptualize such a brilliant character out of thin air. I have read Pluto and even though Pluto is brilliant... in its ideas and plot ( Urasawa is a genius) I am yet to come across a character, even by the same mangaka, that can give u the same chills and feelings as Johann...

so in a nutshell, i agree with you. I dont say Johann is just evil though... he is like a chalice holding everything...

It is kind of interesting, they've made this point about Johann being "the monster." And yet, some of killings were intended to help others, like obviously when he slaughtered the hospital director and his team to help out Tenma. Pretty tough.

Are you guys looking forward to the final manga volume? I know I am-- and I'm really looking forward to 20th Century Boys! I got to talk to VIZ about it briefly here: http://www.animevice.com/gia-interviews-the-viz-media-peeps/113-9/, it was really awesome

Sephiroth's got nothing on Johan Liebert.

A better comparison would be Kefka actually.
(Yeah, call me a FF6 fan boy if you want. FF1 is my favourite actually)

I actually think Kefka is rather similar to Johan in some ways.
(Of course they're still very different in other ways too)
But anyways think about it...

-Both are cold-blooded murderers
-Both are the results of a experiment gone wrong
-Both find this world meaningless
-Both dress up (in different outfits though)

The biggest difference is that Johan is almost never hysterical
and that Kefka gets very angry, which I haven't seen Johan do.
(That's not to say Johan doesn't get upset.)

He's pretty much that,,
what makes him a great villain is his ability
to turn people evil like him,, and his total disregard for live (even his own)

He's such a master manipulator and an amazing villain - probably my favorite~ But did you notice that it doesn't matter how evil this kid is, at the end of the series, no one (in terms of viewers) actually ends up resenting him? People admire his genius a lot more than hating him for what he's done...At least from what I've seen/noticed. =/

Johan is by far the most evil/villainous person in manga/anime in my opinion...

he can easily manipulate and control others... he has this charisma and has the ability to control people without Lelouche's code geass....
