I don't see why dubs are needed to be honest, are there really people so illiterate they cant even bear to read words on a screen for around 20 minutes?

Actually, I was quite illiterate when I was four years old. I couldn't read in English but only understand it (I started out with Spanish).

How do you learn to speak fluently enough in one language to understand a program in it but read and write in another at the age of 4?

I couldn't even speak English, I could only understand bits and pieces of it. As for Spanish I don't quite remember if I was completely fluent in that. But now it's the opposite. I can speak, write and read in English but I can only understand Spanish.

Surely in that case you wouldn't have understood much less if you had saw it in japnese then, since im guessing the bits and pieces weren't that usefull to you and much of the meaning was derived from what was happening on screen.

Probably, but I still wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't dubbed. It's not like they would've played the original on television. But around the time of Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z is definately when I could understand it and enjoyed it regardless of the dub. Though...the Dragon Ball Z sub I find really annoying...

Actually I'm not so sure about that since some asian films do make it accross subbed and get broadcast (eg. crouching tiger hidden dragon and house off flying daggers) dunno why they can't do the same to anime.

Maybe because it's a way for American's to make money? I don't know.
Are those two movies good? I've really wanted to see them for a while now.

Probably, seems like a deliberate slap in the face to fans to me a well though "yes we've broadcast it but if you want the proper version fork over the cash now" (around £10 ($20) per volume for british as well )

And yes, they are definately worth watching.

Anime dvds can be so expensive, but I normally go to pawn shops where it can be a lot cheaper.

the people who do things like this to anime should die. especially if they do it to the all time greatest anime created. anime is Japanese keep it in Japanese

But there are tons of people who are introduced to anime dubbed in English especially since the Americans seem to be a huge target. I probably would have never been able to really become interested if it was never in English. Plus, I've seen dubs that are just as good as the Japanese original, like Fruits Basket, Berserk, FMA, Haibane Renmei etc.

well those people who have been introduced through English probably shouldent watch anime at all. they could just live thier lives without caring about not knowing that anime exists, but no they have to ruin it for the rest of us. Do YOU like anime being licensed? i sure dont. FMA dub was not good either nor was Fruits basket, the english people are too lazy to play such good roles. i still say anime should be in japanese.
I would not have become an anime fan without dubs. Sailor moon and DBZ were my first. I had no idea they came from the land of the rising sun, all I knew was I liked it as a kid.
I started going on the internet and reading subbed though when I got internet.
I should have lived my life without anime, just because my first one was a dub?

NO!

yes..... if you start with dub NO ANIME FOR U. if you start with sub or manga, then go to dub to see how it is the you can have anime....
*smacks forehead* Wow, my IQ is dropping.

too bad for u

Dude, practically everyone born after 1990 MUST'VE seen the DBZ dub first. You can barely even find Japanese DBZ anymore! Anyway, this is a stupid arguement because I started with dubs and now I watch anime. And believe me, despite what you just said, I thank myself for seeing those dubs, because I might have never found anime without them. (I probably would've found it, but many years later.)

STUPID ARGUEMENT

Anyway, I do agree, a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann dub would suck.

thats what it started off as, i didnt want to take it any farther, and thank you for agreeing

I would have much rather had heard ADV films dub cast then Bandai's. But ADV had lost the right to it and Bandai picked it. I actually like dubs. There isn't any wrong with them in my book. I miss a lot of the meaning when I just watch it sub.

No matter how many people are against dubs. There are still going to be people who watch anime Dub, so give the whole hate of dubs a rest.
