This thread reminds me of that one time I played Super Robot Wars OGS.

Early on in the game, Ryuusei can get owned by tanks and airplanes in his Gespenst.

Don't you everyone think that all Gundam Series are related to the future. Well, I mean the possible path the world might take.
For example, Gundam 00, which uses the AD system, the story is about the uneasiness of the world particularly to the fossil fuel producing countries.... Which is happening right now....
Try to imagine everything if the fantasy of the Series or "timelines" become possible..... There might be an Aeolia Schenberg or a Celestial Being lurking somewhere unnoticed.

if almost all of the gundam series will be possible in the near future, then we will have space colony... which is exciting but at the same time it also terrifies me coz of the wars in the gundam series may also become possible...^_^

Owe it all to Yoshiyuki Tomino, he's the man.

You know the worst part of those kinds of wars? Colony dropping. Bummer if it falls on our Thousand Islands.

Macross mechas are more impossible than Gundams to be honest. Transformations between the 3 modes is much harder than making a bipedal Gundam (keep in mind I mean the RX-78-2 types, no Funnel system, no wings, no high powered buster rifles). Making tactical mechs like the Ishtar Mk-II and the Raiden from Gasaraki are more closer to reality because it is much more battle efficient and less costly. Better speed, smaller size, lighter weight, more choice in artillery, .etc.

what anime is garasaki?

Gasaraki is a mecha/psychological anime from the 1990s.

where can i watch that?

there is a possibility for gundams maybe, if the size and weight are controlled, the movement speed is the one really out of the question. space colonies anyway have more possibility

If any of you have read the manga Red Eyes the mecha suit in that is alot more probably of what we would have in the future than something like a Gundam. Doesnt stop me from hopeing tho

A knightmare type mech is FAR more easy to build cuse you dont have to walk, so you dont have the balancing problems that would come with gundams, or any other bi-pedal robot.

Gundam is fiction.

Personally, it depends on how far into the future you look. Out of the science fiction series I've seen, Planetes is probably the most likely outcome in terms of things happening within this century; give Earth, say, 150-250 years, and we might hit Ghost in the Shell territory. But unless every country decides it's best to settle all of their conflicts with giant bipedal robots (lol Future Century), I doubt mecha are ever really going to see any extensive use on any battlefield.

Go ask Tomino himself or read the original Mobile Suit Gundam novel.

Painting your Gundam grey makes it more efficient.

But painting it red makes it go three times faster, right?

i agree. gundams are way too inefficient and bulky. no one sane would invest time, effort and money into actually making one. seriously, as much as i love gundams and think they're cool and all, the concept is just quite ridiculous. but heres a point i never thought of; would a gundam's capabilities fare better in space? if it did then, and only then could i possibly see in some distant future the creation of gundams as a form of space combat vehicle. (it still would cost an astronomical amount of money, effort, time and insane people though)

Any opinions?

I agree with this post...in a way. Ghost In the Shell is one of those anime(s) that bring the concept of humans fusing with technology on the table. How about the movie THE MATRIX? I can imagine that if technology does become exceedingly advanced in the very, very distant future, technology will most likely dominate the human race, a time when humans are actually not that active. Using Gundams, on the other hand...I do not think its possible. Well, if technology reaches an ultra advanced state, yes. Like what other people said, the human technology isn't that advanced yet. With the laws of physics, I believe Gundams would be ultra slow, if equipped with weapons, let alone with their colossal size. Also, the basic thing: money. Gundams will definitely cost too much money. With Gundam 00, I do not know how the living hell Celestial Being managed to get away with it with the WHOLE world not knowing. And plus, why would Gundams be needed if the world already witnessed the devastation of the atomic bomb???

...DRAGOONS manipulated by the human mind in a giant robot?!?!?! Now THAT is crazy.

i love Gundam but cheap IEDs could easily cripple mobile suits.

They might be more useful in space but not in Earth.
