Tactical games, games that involved turn-based action, and often uses a grid-type field, are a popular type of RPG. Some games that are successful in this area are Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and Suikoden Tactics. I myself have played many of these games, and find them quite enjoyable. In your opinion, without starting altercations, what are the pros and cons of such games, and why do you think they have been a successful market?

Simple, yet very 'to the point'. Yes, I can see how man people would enjoy these games because of the intellect it takes to fully conquer the games, and I can see how even the most dedicated players can get bored of moving around a grid for hours on end. I myself got bored of Final Fantasy Tactics after 80+ hours of play time. You can only beat it twice before you stop trying.

but disgaea is a total different thing from FFT

i could waste alot of time just to make a perfect overlord

These kind of games are great. Nothing beats the very first Tactics Ogre.

Jeanne D'Arc was a great game with a fantastic storyline, but there wasn't enough customization in it to keep me playing after I beat it. I just beat Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 last week and the situation is completely opposite to that. The customization is large and takes a long time to get your perfect character. The main storyline was... pathetic. The side quests had more interesting plots then then main storyline which is just sad, but strangely, I've been playing it for over 80 hours and I'm still playing which is much longer than the time I spent playing Jeanne D'Arc, a game with better visuals and a better storyline.

Sucks that my DS is broken[stupid brats!! arghhh im still pissed...], well it was old and phat anyway, may it rest in peace.... Im really looking forward to FFTA2 since I heard mostly good things about it... Oh well, time to get my hands on a lite...

Yeah, Jeanne D'Arc was great, I dont know the true history of Joan of Arc but what keeps me hook is the story.. Although it bugs me that you cant attack your teammates to exploit easy exp.. It was fun though.. I stopped playing after reviving Leane...

I guess I'm more into old school when it comes to these games so I'll go with Vandal Hearts 2 (and it's awesome simultaneous movement system) and Final Fantasy Tactics (let's face, it has to be one of the pinnacles when it comes to the genre).

pros: its a mind game, its like a modern chess. we're being force to think.

cons: might appear as a tedious game to some, at times u have to repeat and repeat the game if you commit mistake until you get the right strategy.

pro's - its like chess minus the boring and added in talking books that shoot frogs

con's - um if you dont have a long attention span you may not like most of these

and why hasn't anybody mentioned SHINING FORCE?

Have you tried Persona 3? It's a turn based tactical RPG.
