Now, that is what differs. An Otaku IMO would be into the (DM-made ) theory of "Anime experimentalism", in which they would try any series they never knew out. "Detonator Orgun? WTF, I'll buy that USED."

And agreed on the last sentence. However, I just save and save till I can afford it used, lol.

I'll buy a series that I've never known about, as long as it's nice and cheap. I knew nothing about the AD Police and Parasite Dolls and bought them together for 20 dollars brand new. Not the best show, but very cheap!
Sometimes I find shows are too expensive though. I'll save up sometimes for shows, but I've seen shows like Serial Experiments Lain boxsets for 90$. That's far too much, to me.

Smart shopper you are. If only there were more like you. (as far as the Lain thing, here's a link from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_d?url=search-alias%3Ddvd&field-keywords=Lain&x=0&y=0 I love this site! )

Which AD Police? There were 2 series. (old OVA and a newer TV)

It was an old 13 episode series.
I got the last three discs of Lain, and all I need is the very first one. I always don't have a credit card, so I don't use Amazon. I would ask parents but they really don't support me using a lot of my money on DVDs.

And you can't find it? I always had this problem as a kid in the VHS days.

Reasonable. It's good at your age to be spending it on useful things.

Yeah, that's true, but clothing or cartoons are the only thing I like to spend my money on.

..i think otaku's are just those people who over looked too much on anime's or just crossed the bounderies of liking an anime..its true that animes are really nice, but being obessesed with it is fine too..just not too much like for example going above limits on cosplays..Best example is when the one cosplaying is already annoyed and you still want him/her to do the cosplay even if he/she is busy just for your pleasure... I mean being an anime lover or otaku is part of your personality.. But just dont ruin your life and think of how you will live aswell :D..i hope u get my point if not just ignore me XD

Im an anime lover, that's it. An otaku is someone who is overly obssess with animes. I watch my anime once in a while but that's it, lol. My definition of an otaku is someone who do all of the following cosplay anime, watch like 3 type an anime a day, dress like one, try acting like one, and someone who goes buying anime related stuff. lol

this is the best answer... if you want to know more, just see the anime genshiken...
madarame, kosaka, the guy that make cosplay outfits, and the chubby drawer = otakus
the principal and ohno = anime lovers

i myself im a anime lover cuz i know but i do have things that a otaku have but i kinda have like 1 or 2 of each
i got posters, toys, videogames, images, dvds.
i do cosplay, crossplay and i see alot of anime, i also read manga in internet.

to call yourself a anime lover, is that you like anime
to call yourself a otaku you need to have all the things i have over 5 or 10 each

Otaku's are super obsessed..[[and they scare me]] they go insane for anime/manga.

Anime fans enjoy anime, they think of it as a hobby not as their life.

example of otakus: In a high school my friend went to, there were people who would cosplay as "their character" everyday to school.
[[I find that extremely saddening... >_>]]

Also some otaku's actually want to BE the character they love...they use their name and start to act like the character...creepy.
