Hello there otakus...welcome to Dia's room...everything related to media & music is HERE!!

1. Pick a show! It doesn't really matter as long as it's anime, but please, try to make it a show you ACTUALLY WATCH. If you don't know anything about a show, it may mix you up.

2. Pick a song. Actually this should be done before picking your show, as you may not be able to find the right song to go with your show, but switched around it would be much easier. Grab the song from whatever source you can, CDs, Limewire. Whatever, as long as it works. Now comes the most annoying part. Listening to the song almost non-stop for about a day. This will give you the knowledge of where certain things in the music are for you to sync to, meaning you don't have to rely on audio pikes to create your amv. Once you have that down, think about what type of amv you can make to the song. You can't make a sentimental amv with long running clips to a screamo song. Remember that. Think about flow at this time, are you going to sync to words? Drums? Guitars? How are you going to transition at different times, crossfades? Black fades? Effects? Think about all of this long and hard, for this is what's going to make your amv worth watching.

3. Buy DVDS! Or go to Asian DVD Club and get the VOBS/Mpeg2 files that you want to use. Knowing your footage is a must for an amv. Also you must learn how to convert the VOBs to something that is useable in an amv which requires outside programs, all which can be gotten here*mac users can't use this*,(a little note VOBs are large, a single disc goes up to 1 gig of hard drive space, so if you have an external hard drive now is the time to use it. If you don't have the space for VOBs please get high-quality .avi files with no subtitles on it, and if you can't attain this, don't edit until you can.)

4. Editing Time! You can use a lot of editing programs for this step, though preferably a non-linear editing program such as Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, and Magix. Adobe After effects is not a good choice for this part (though you should get it anyway, because it makes great effects). If you do not own these programs, please search for them. Be prepared to spend a day to a year on this step, as long as it takes to reach perfection.

5. Time balancing is also very important. You don't want to edit for 6 hours on an amv, or else you are going to get bored. A good schedule would be: 4 hours amv, then anything you want to do, if you have time spend another 2 hours on your amv.

6. 63Share it with the world! A good place to put your first few videos is Youtube, here you can receive alot of positive feedback on your videos, as well as a few honest opinions. This can get your confidence up. Also you may want to take the time on getting extremely good editors to comment your video telling you their opinion, which will most likely be a lot more useful than the common Youtuber's. After you feel confident enough you should start posting your lastest videos on Anime Music Videos, there you will find that everything is more competitive, and refined than a Youtube amv-ers world, also when you make the transfer never mention that you are from Youtube, never post a link to Youtube, and in fact its better off if you delete your Youtube and make your amv.org name totally different from your Youtube name (it would also be a good idea to read the tutorial about uploading a video to amv.org, since it is a lot different that Youtube's system). All of the "no Youtube" comes from the fact that amv.org is set at a higher standard than youtube, and generally boasting about your "Youtube greatness" will only give you frowns, don't shy away from the "org" though, because it will take your editing to a level you only dreamed about while you were on Youtube. You can make use of the forum there to announce your latest amvs, as well as receive feedback, which will be much more informative of what the viewer actually thinks of your amv, than youtube. After posting a few videos there and feel like you've reached the pinnacle of editing, you may want to send a video to an anime convention that displays amvs. This way a huge audience will be able to see your amv on a giant screen.

Tips

* Make sure that in between amvs you download a lot of amvs off of Anime Music Videos, this might give you inspiration, and also it is very fun to do.
* Do not constantly edit....you can have a life and edit!
* Have fun! Usually by the time you finish an amv, you will hate the song, hate the anime and sometimes give up. Making it all fun will help you push through the video, coming up with something you absolutely love.
* In between making and watching amv you should take the time to get Msn or Aim messenger and add your favorite editors/editor friends to it. By doing this you can talk to them at any time, and also get them to watch early stages of your amv, giving you feedback on it, helping you make the best amv you can.
