Ther have been many good animes out there, but what makes them so great and so successful?
Is it because of a common thread or is it something else?
Tell me you opinions, or what u like in a story line.

PS. not sure if its a duplicate but when i search there was nothing i think.... LOL

For me a good storyline its somthing that will make you want to know more, its something that will make you think of all the posibilities of future eps, something that will keep you in edge of your seat, or makes you say "damn" or "omg" or "wtf".......
Thats the emotional explanation, now the rational one, a good storyline consists of an actual plot, something that character in the series revolve and evolve in it, it has to be something meaninfull and take makes sense. Who doesnt hate when all the sudden the plot just resolves in the las 10 mins of the series?
Something interesting but not cheese boring......

A comedic first half with...

A heart-warming romantic middle followed by...

A tragic separation and finally...

An emotional reunion.

~A good storyline is well thought of. Preparation must be meticulous
~Plot holes must be absent
~Unique. It should give us something distinct from the norm
~Should be able to reach out to their audience emotionally
~Excellent character development
~Has a light touch of humor. You don't want to bore someone
~Transition from a scene to the next must be flawless

Hmmm. Well, as I'm thinking, an important thing I see is that it has to have interesting and likeable characters that I want to root for, and where I want to know what happens to them. This was the case in Elfen Lied, Claymore, Ouran High, Please Twins, FMP, FMA, the Ninja Scroll movie, Mai Hime, MONSTER, Moon Phase, Aishiteruze Baby, EVA, and others. If there is an interesting plot, but I don't care about the characters or even dislike them (like with Death Note, Hell Girl, Dears, Final Approach, and ICE).

It's a personal thing for me, but I also appreciate a plot where there is a happy ending for the interesting and likeable characters. There are a bunch of shows where I want things to turn out good for the characters involved, but they don't. This tends to tick me off, but that's just me. I won't do the spoiler thing and list them here. You know of one from my list up above where the "END" was pretty unsatisfying.

Lastly, I do like smart plots that keep my interest, keep me guessing and are full of surprises, like Elfen Lied, Claymore, Mai Hime, FMP 2nd Raid, MONSTER and others. Dumb plots or twists just make me groan. Solti Rei is one show that just had alot of dumb stuff in it.

Hahaha. So in short, Planetarian the game, am I right?

For my contribution here,

With epicness over 9000 like End of Evangelion and Gurenn Lagann and

Lots of plot twist like Code Geass.

The plot has to make sense in some form,
the characters have to have some sort of depth, nothing ruins an anime more then a flat main character.
No endings that just jump together at the end, when you devote your time to watching an anime and the ending seems to come out of no where (in a bad way i.e the ending makes no sense and seems to completely contradict the rest of the series) endings like that just make everything unenjoyable.
A plot that moves you with it, (a character dies- you cry, a cliff hanger- hanging off the sofa screaming why you have to wait for next week to see what happens) You want to have an experience with the plot not just watch it

I don't agree, a happy ending or a plot following that outline isn't needed to have a good plot-
The plot could be completely sad, angst ridden, and miserable but it could still have a great plot

*unpredictable, yet not chaotic
*realistic within the context
*multiple genres, just as life is
*non-one dimensional characters
*great character interaction
*a rising action, a climax, and a falling action, preferably the rising action being fairly long, and the falling action being much shorter
